upper front thigh pain
1. When did the pain begin?
started about a year ago and been off and on. been mostly on when running for the last 6-8 weeks really only after running for some time.
2. What were you doing at the time? Or did the pain come on gradually over time?
running prompts it. Wasn't like a traumatic event. more gradual
3. Where, anatomically, is the pain?
upper front left thigh slightly toward the pelvis. Looking at getbodysmart, I would guess it was Satorius
4. What does the pain feel like? Sharp? Dull? Aching? Stabbing? Shooting?
ache
5. Is the pain constant, or intermittent, or only on certain motions?
can't think of it happening outside of running. it is either evident at the beginning or after about a mile or two of running. Pain is constant.
6. What motions make your pain worse?
running
7. What, if anything, makes your pain better?
- I try different strides/posture (e.g. knee lifts) with varying degrees of success.
- I've also had limited success with stopping while running after feeling the pain, raising my left leg on a step or something, and pressing on the ache with a knuckle. Sometimes it seems to "release" and the ache diminishes or leaves.
- had one run where I stretched by laying on my stomach and raising torso to rest on my elbows to stretch the area. Small run (2 miles) was good following this.
-stretching, RICE (esp ice) help it after a run but it is back on the next run
8. Does your pain radiate to any other part of your body?
no.
9. What things could you do before, that you cannot do now because of your injury?
run faster, longer, in much more comfortable and effortless stride
10. What is your main concern regarding the pain and its consequences?
limited success in running. My goal is to qualify for boston marathon in October.
11. Have you ever injured that part of your body before? If so, how?
not that I can remember. not sure if this is important but when I do exercises like knee raises for my abdominals, there is almost like a rubber band sliding over my pelvic bone. often on both sides. Doesn't hurt but is a "weird" sensation. Today it happened after a mild run with the upper leg ache and the ache seem to shift very slightly to the outside of the leg but still in the same area.
12. Is your pain getting worse over time? And if so, how much worse over what time period?
doesn't seem to be getting worse but some runs are better than others.
