Default Knee injury - possible PCL issue?

1. When did the pain begin?

2. What were you doing at the time? Or did the pain come on gradually over time?

I walked in to an open file cabinet drawer.

3. Where, anatomically, is the pain?

Right below my right knee cap, and above the bump I've had since a kid from osgood schlatter disease.

4. What does the pain feel like? Sharp? Dull? Aching? Stabbing? Shooting?

Most of the time no pain at all. Sometimes dull pain. Stabbing pain if I try to do a lateral squat.

5. Is the pain constant, or intermittent, or only on certain motions?

Certain motions.

6. What motions make your pain worse?

Push press and lateral squats cause sharp pain.

7. What, if anything, makes your pain better?

Rest. I can walk and use the elliptical machine without pain.

8. Does your pain radiate to any other part of your body?

No.

9. What things could you do before, that you cannot do now because of your injury?

Certain knee dominant moves. I've drastically reduced the amount of weight I squat because of concerns around stability. I also notice that the knee is a little "wobbly" when doing step ups, albeit not painful.

I also strained my left hip flexor last week doing forward lunges, and I think the weakness/lack of stability on the right knee contributed to that. (My hips have generally been healthy otherwise).

10. What is your main concern regarding the pain and its consequences?

Short term concern for limits this places on leg exercises I can do. Long term concern around avoiding arthritis in the joint.

11. Have you ever injured that part of your body before? If so, how?

No

12. Is your pain getting worse over time? And if so, how much worse over what time period?

No.

Thanks ! !

I doubt it's a PCL tear. They are pretty uncommon outside of MVA or direct trauma (usually in sports, like a football tackle).

If it is a PCL tear, it would have swelled up like a balloon as the PCL is highly vascularized.

Probably more likely a traumatic tendonitis.
