Question ESWT and Tendinopathy

Hey Everybody,

Has anyone found success with ESWT (extracorporeal shockwave therapy) in the treatment of tendinopathy? I've been suffering from shoulder/biceps tendinosis for a year and a half now and am considering this route (along with platelet-rich plasma injections) after failing surgery and extensive physical therapy.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Thanks,
C10

Smile ESWT for tendonopathies

ESWT has worked very well for all kinds of tendonopathies, including calsification of the shoulder, tennis elbow, patella tendonitis, and many more. Where are you located, I may know of a provider that is close and can help.

Thanks for the info, Steve.

I split my time between New York and Southern California. I'll be in the latter for another week or so, and then in New York until July.

The evidence for ESWT is tenuous at best; the shoulder being the least well studied of all the tendinopathies; and biceps tendinopathy virtually unstudied.

If you can afford it, it probably won't hurt you (though the treatment is quite painful); however, it is quite expensive for a therapy that really is a dice roll as to its success.

Bryan,

Thanks very much for the feedback. Indeed, it's difficult to find extensive biceps tendinopathy studies. I've been grasping at straws lately - PRP, stem cells, prolotherapy, PEMF - due to the lack of research pertaining specifically to BT.

What might you recommend for someone who has failed conventional methods (up to and including surgery)?

Thanks again.

What surgery have you had? And what is your diagnosis?

Bryan -

I had labral debridement and chondroplasty performed on my right shoulder last July. A recent (January) bilateral MRI revealed no serious trauma, but some signs of tendiopathy in both shoulders.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,
