Well as of a few days ago I was on a nice bulking cycle with a good program ready to take on new challenges. Today... a nice broken toe on my right (dominant) foot. And boy does it hurt....
I'm hoping maybe someone has had this experience before so they can tell me how they dealt with it. I have a few questions though, as always. How long should I wait before I can really go back to the gym? How long can I wait to do my lower body again (like squats, deadlifts)? And of course, how can I maintain the muscle I have? Also, they told me I'll pretty much have permanent arthritis in my big toe... will that effect my lifting forever? What about any supplements?
I do expect to be out for at least two weeks (at that time I might be able to do upper body exercises?) if not more. This is the first time I've broken-sprained anything in my life, so I don't know how to react to it. All that I know is I'm pretty mad I can't be in the gym at this time.
Any feedback would be great; support is what I need right now!
I dropped a 45 lb plate on my right big toe this last summer and it still hurts a little at times so I assume I broke it. (I talked to my doctor, but did not get X-rays.)
I took the following week I did it off. It was a planned week off, so I guess the timing was right. I was able to get back to lifting the next week, but I was very careful.

I broke a little toe a couple of years ago and it was nearly a month before I could wear a regular shoe on that foot. The folks at the gym allowed me to wear one shoe and one flip flop and banned me from the free weight floor until I could once again wear two proper shoes. So, I spent the next month on the machines and confined my cardio to the stationary bike and stair stepper, neither of which bothered my toe.

Good thing! That athletic shoe would totally save your foot from dropping a weight and breaking another toe!

It made no sense to me safety-wise. The owner said something about not wanting someone in that area barefoot if someone from the insurance company stopped by.
It also had much to do with appearances and allowing exceptions to the facility's rules. Their posted rules required shoes when using the facility. He would allow me to use some areas of the facility with 1 shoe and 1 flip-flop (and the stair climber barefoot), but wanted everyone to see that I was single-shoed only because I was injured. He didn't "want others to see that I was barefoot or wearing flip flops and decide to do so themselves". The free weight floor ban sent a clear signal to the crowd he was most concerned about.

Well, the time is now when I'm looking forward to coming back into the cycle of training again. It will yet be a few weeks before I'm back in and on top of it, but I'd like to start preparing now.
With that said... what should I do to prepare and start back up again? How should I approach the gym once I step foot back in. All of those questions in regard to diet and exercising.
I am pretty sure I broke my left big toe several years ago. Even now, lunges are damn near impossible with my left leg back.
I would think you'd know if you broke it! I can't even put an ounce of pressure on this thing or I feel like I'd die. And that's after one full week of recovery time!
