Question Shoulder Pain Self-Diagnosis

Hey Everybody,

I underwent labral debridement and chondroplasty in my right shoulder last July. It has been a painfully slow recovery process, but it's been feeling pretty good since December.

Earlier this week, though, I felt a pop in my right shoulder when doing decline dumbbell presses. There was no immediate pain, but my shoulder has felt sore and generally "strange" since then.

Can anyone recommend some self-tests I could perform to figure out what, if anything, might be wrong? My theories are:

A) My unrepaired partial labral tear turned into a full tear.

B) I'm just being paranoid.

I did schedule a doctor's appointment, but won't be able to get in until late next week. Any suggestions as to what I can do until then would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would rest it and ice it and wait for the doctor personally ...

Thanks, Julie. It may simply be inflammation, as NSAIDs and ice have provided some relief.

I had a thermal capsulorrhaphy nearly 10 years ago. About a year after my surgery, I was doing lat pullovers with a bodybar, and felt the shoulder ... mmmm ... slip or something ... it felt funny for a good long while, but now it does not bother me at all. Since I really got my lower traps and other scapular stabilizers working properly.

Something to consider ... obviously apples and oranges since the surgeries are different, but both relate to structural stability of the GH joint. FWIW pretty much all bench type presses bother my shoulders. I can do flyes and pushups without any problem, but any type of spine-fixated press just bothers them (DB or BB). It's better if I do them on a stability ball and really focus on my scapulae ...

Hey Everybody,

My shoulder is doing fairly well, thanks in part to the great info available on this forum .

I noticed lately that I feel pain in my right shoulder (surgery 07/2008) when flexing the biceps. Obviously, this doesn't relate to functionality, but I thought the information might be useful diagnostically.

Is this common in biceps tendinosis, or can the pain caused by flexing stem from something else altogether?

Thanks,
C10
