Left Leg Stability
Julie,
I have a situation where I think I know what the problem is, but I can't figure out a good solution. My left leg become unstable when I do anything that is unsupported single leg oriented. I can perform the movements, but I also know that I'm not 100% lock in from a stability perspective. I have developed compensation patterns that allow me to complete a movement, but it doesn't seem healthy when my femur moves side to side (I'm exaggerating, but that's kind of what's happening); that can't be healthy on the knee. For example, I can do pistols on my left leg, but while I do it, my leg is constantly fighting to rebalance itself. I'm sure there are compensatory things happening to allow me to perform that movement. I believe that my glute medius is the culprit. I can get it to fire while doing side lying clam. I can also get into a side lying pillar and abduct my leg without problem. I'm just not sure how to get it to work to stabilize the femur while standing on one leg or in a dynamic movement situation (like running).
Do you have any suggestions or am I all wrong and maybe there's something else going on?
Thank You.
