Around every 6 months, I attempt to take an entire week off from resistance training. I've observed that my joints (my shoulders in particular) ache more after the 3rd day of not lifting than if I was still on my regular resistance training routine. My question is, why is it that after resting for the 9 days my shoulders ache more than if I was still adhering to my regular regime?
You might have some arthritis. The movement in the lifting stimulates fluid for lubrication. Try doing some mobility exercises and stretching on the off days.

I just turned 25. Is arthiritis a possiblity at that age? Mobility exersizes, such as external rotations? Band work?
I had a friend in grade school with arthritis. It's possible at any age, just unlikelier as you're younger. I think it's different causes, also, so that's a factor.
I find for me that after a bit of not lifting, I'm more achy and feel the need to have things popped and whatnot. It's more from a lack of activity and movement than from the actual lifting, when it comes to me. It doesn't happen if I take a lifting break but still remain active throughout my day. I consider it punishment for sitting on my butt. I don't have arthritis or anything.
I noticed a while ago that when I stop lifting for more than a few days my back begins to hurt.
I don't take weeks completely off of training anymore. Just lower the volume or the intensity for one week.

I've made some huge mistakes, but they were necessary, because without them I wouldn't have learned anything.

Thanks for the response.
It's possible, but early-onset/juvenile arthritis is usually of the autoimmune (rheumatoid) type) and therefore quite rare. Certainly, if that were the case, we would expect you to have pain on a regular basis, and not after a few days of rest on a twice-per-year basis. Whatever it is, it's not likely to be arthritis-based.
