I've been limping around since the summit. I jumped off the yacht onto the pier barefoot, and landed a little hard. I don't limp with shoes on, but I cannot walk barefoot. The pain is in the ball of my left foot on the second and third toes.
A friend who is a doctor did a quick "squeeze" test to confirm it wasn't some common nerve problem (can't remember what). He told me that if it was, squeezing the foot would not be an option, and that the fix would be injecting the trigger point.
It's been over a couple of months now and only seems to be getting worse. I'm probably going to break down and get it x-rayed.
Are there soft tissue injuries like this that feel like a break? Advice?
I rolled my ankle once and continued to play on it for another hour or so, thinking it was a mild sprain. I continued to think this for the next week as I went about my job, which kept me on my feet all day in perpetual motion. When I realized it wasn't healing the way it usually did (lots of experience in this regard), I finally broke down and went to the doc and had it x-rayed. Yup, clean break of one of the metatarsals. I guess my point is, for all intents and purposes, it appeared to be one thing and turned out to be another. At least as far as a bone break, an x-ray will probably be pretty definitive.

Bone bruises could feel like a break. I'm sure some other soft tissue injuries could cause similar symptoms.
Just get it x-rayed to make sure there isn't an obvious fracture. If the x-ray is negative, there's a pretty good chance that the pain will subside on its own. If it persists beyond a few more weeks to months, then you can look at more advanced testing (e.g., bone scan, MRI).
