Default Lower back injury

1. When did the pain begin?

2. What were you doing at the time? Or did the pain come on gradually over time?
I was doing Conventional Deadlifts. I didn't feel any real pain, just maybe some strain in my lower back when squatting to put the BB back on the ground. The real pain came on a few hours later.

3. Where, anatomically, is the pain?
Lumbar area, dead center then spreading outward on both sides evenly

4. What does the pain feel like? Sharp? Dull? Aching? Stabbing? Shooting?
Aching while resting and sharp sudden pain with certain movments like lifting and bending.
5. Is the pain constant, or intermittent, or only on certain motions?
Stiffness is always there, definate pain and restriciton in my range of motion - liting and bending
6. What motions make your pain worse?
Lifting, bending,
7. What, if anything, makes your pain better?
Rest

8. Does your pain radiate to any other part of your body?
No
9. What things could you do before, that you cannot do now because of your injury?
I am struggling to do easy things, like carrying my child, touch my toes, and most core and lower back focused exercies.
10. What is your main concern regarding the pain and its consequences?
I want to fix it, and rehab it so that it isn't a reoccuring problem. Totally bumbed out that my workouts have lost their intensity.
11. Have you ever injured that part of your body before? If so, how?
no
12. Is your pain getting worse over time? And if so, how much worse over what time period?
It comes and goes with intesity depending on how active I have been. Today yoga was a bad idea. When I stay out of the gym it feels better.

I did visit the Dr. she believes that it is a ligament strain and just said if it is then rest for 6-8 weeks. She also sent me for Scoliosis xrays, but I haven't heard the results yet.

Looking in the mirror I can definalty notice that my left shoulder and hip are higher than the right side. I guess this is the reason for the xrays.

Not sure if I should rest, go for massage, physio?? Wait untill I get the xray results back.

Any insight or advice would be great! Thanks.

Default sympathy; i feel your pain

I'm in the same boat. I was initially doing dl's ok with lighter weight for several weeks of NROL, then I upped the weight for Fat Loss II. My form went to heck I guess and now my lower back has been bothering me for a good 3 weeks now. It's interesting to hear your dr say 6-8 weeks of rest, since in the 3 weeks it's been ups and downs of better and worse. I thought it'd feel a lot better by now, 3 weeks later, but I guess it'll be longer.

Funny thing is it doesn't hurt at all in bed or after I get out of bed, but later on during the day. Usually if I have back pain it gets better the more I get up and move around.

I've gone to physical therapy for back pain before, but in this case I wonder how much effect it will have since I was exercising very regularly, even had been doing dl's with no problem, and then an overload of weight and one set of bad form is what did it. IOW, it wasn't a weak core, it was my poor form. How would strengthening my core even more really help?

Sorry about the injury BLUEFEVER...
I got a bad back strain on April 4 and was out for a whole month though the actual pain subsided in about two weeks. I was too scared to do any kind of exercise and make things worse. My doctor gave me Flexeril (muscle relaxant) and Naproxen but the thing that helped me the most and I highly commend is doing the Mackenzie exercises. The lil' book is really cheap on Amazon.com. It's called Treat Your Own Back by Robin McKenzie. I have been pain-free and happily doing NROLW for a month now. By the way, my strain wasn't exercise related. I was doing yard work.
Hope you recover soon.
Olga.

I would absolutely recommend this book. The first series of exercises is actually what I would recommend for you at this point.

But if you can go see a physio, it would be a good idea. You are young and don't want a lingering back problem!
