Q Angle is a factor. A pre-disposing issue if you will.

Julie,
I think the knee pain is basically gone, hooray! I ended up taking two weeks off of lifting (though now I realize I should have just substituted instead of completely taking off.) I did lots of the above stretches and exercises and am now in the middle of Stage 3 with hardly any pain. I still get stiff after strenuous workouts but I assume that's pretty normal. I'm still working in most of the exercises and stretches into my workouts at the gym or at least my day at home. Thanks so much for the help!
Celeste

Default Exercise with knee pain

As with most knee pain, and depending on source and severity, you should warm up your knees before any exercise program. A good 7 minutes on the treadmill should be fine. If you feel pain there, stop, do RICE. If okay, go and do some light leg extensions, 15-20 rep range, if your pain is 3 or above, I would recommend stopping, don’t do any exercises that use the knee, and do some RICE therapy for a couple of days. A doctor may even recommend some kind of NSAID therapy, though I prefer to try RICE first.

Treadmill and knee extensions for knee pain huh? Lots of bad trainers in LA...

Wow, just noticed my 10,000th post is ripping on dumb advice. Seeing as how I deal with clients that have gotten similarly bad information from local trainers in LA on a daily basis I suppose it is somehow fitting.
