Default Ankle, part deux... or trois?

Alright, once again I'm going to post about this completely EFFED up right ankle o'mine. Yesterday: 2 mins into run on the flat, excruciating stabbing pain anteriorly. NO radiation. Got home, stretched achilles, stretched tibialis. Did a little rotary deal at the same time while foot dorsum was braced and felt a "pop" with some relief.

So then I jumped rope. OK at first and then pain returned (yes, I am an idiot sometimes). It's completely triggered by dorsiflexion.

It seems like it's in the general vicinity of the talofibular ligament, but I have no history of injury. Plain films were unremarkable--I have an MRI that should be scheduled soon (I ordered it today. Gotta love military medicine when you're a provider within it).

So, my questions--could this just be a really persistent tendinopathy? What about little osteophytes rolling around in there? I am so frigging frustrated. Keep in mind, I have to run as part of my job duties, so this is a problem...

Oh yeah, and occasionally it happens to a lesser degree on the left as well. I've changed shoes and all that jazz--I'm a big time supinator (more on the right) if that matters.

Thanks in advance.

Could be osteophytes ... could be cysts ... if the MRI comes back negative, it is likely that the talus is just sitting improperly between the calcaneus and the distal tib-fib joint. Most of these respond really well to joint mobilization (again in the absence of pathology).

Some PTs in San Francisco who might be able to help ...

There's a whole list of California COMT's here (who based upon the coursework they have taken and the certification they have passed I would say SHOULD be good).
