Default Pain in Right Quad when Lunging

1. When did the pain begin? a couple of weeks ago when I slid and fell on the ice - my right leg came up and straightened out hard, landed on my left glute, which hurts a little when I get up.

2. What were you doing at the time? Or did the pain come on gradually over time? (See above)

3. Where, anatomically, is the pain? (See above)

4. What does the pain feel like? Sharp? Dull? Aching? Stabbing? Shooting?
The pain only happens in the right quad when lunging, when it is the grounding leg - it's a sharp pain, and I can't get back to standing up regularly from that position. The left glute has a dull pain, mostly when I stand up from a seated position.

5. Is the pain constant, or intermittent, or only on certain motions? (See above)

6. What motions make your pain worse? (See below)

7. What, if anything, makes your pain better? Don't really feel it other than in the motions specified.

8. Does your pain radiate to any other part of your body? No

9. What things could you do before, that you cannot do now because of your injury? As said - lunging with the right leg down is impossible as I can't get back up due to the pain.

10. What is your main concern regarding the pain and its consequences?
Just wondering what to do to heal up.

11. Have you ever injured that part of your body before? If so, how? Not to my knowledge no.

12. Is your pain getting worse over time? And if so, how much worse over what time period? No - it's healing, albeit very slowly.

Tom, I can't picture what you are describing ... when you say right leg down, is that the back leg or the front leg when lunging?

How's your quad flexibility?

This would be an example of adding things for Lent

When the right leg is the back leg is when I feel it. Now that you mention it, I also feel it when I do quad stretches (like after spinning).

Thanks for the help Julie.

Probably a strain that is healing. Keep stretching it (be gentle and don't force anything ... just be consistent and hold each stretch for a good 30 seconds.). Be sure to fully warm it up (dynamic) before workouts. And add in some foam rolling if you aren't doing it already.

Thanks Julie - the pain is enough to discourage any type of force. I don't have a foam roller yet - will any do, or is there one you can recommend?
