Pain in right tricep/shoulder area
After yesterdays workout, a pain has shown up in my right tricep about where it meets the shoulder on the back side. It especially hurts (icepick feeling) if I put my arm straight up and bend at the elbow or straight out and push down. It feels sort of like a knot in the muscle. Any idea how to treat this? Thanks.
Edit: It may very well be the back of the shoulder.

For the first few days, I would ice it and avoid the provoking movements ... did you notice the onset after any specific exercise?

On Sunday my neck felt fine, but Monday it did feel a little tight and my right arm feels almost like someone gave my a "charlie" even if I don't move it. I've stayed away from moving it in the ways it hurts and am stayaing away from the weights for a few days. Do you think it's anything serious or just sound like a pulled something?

Might be good to get it checked out ... sounds like it could be referred from your neck ...

After giving it a good week, it still basically hurts like h*ll if I move it wrong, so I made a doc appointment. Hope it's not serious.

My first thought was subscapularis - mainly because I've had something similar and, after getting it fixed up by my massage guy, I've been able to keep it at bay with stretching of the subscap before chinups. Two clients of mine have had the same thing, and the same stretch helped. Another one had something similar after playing tennis, and that was indeed his neck.
I'd really like to hear what the doctor says.

I'd like to hear what the doc has to say too, unfortunately the office called today and cancelled my appointment!!! My wife was like (to the office that called), "did he (me) cancel the appointment or are you" and they said, "we are" and she asked "can you reschedule for tomarrow?" and they said, "your husband will have to call us tomarrow"
I'm a bit frustrated by this. I havn't done a upper body workout since it happened - and i have a big trip comming up that i need to be fully healthy for.

Hmm, I'm not Bill or Julie but in light of no doctor's appointment...
Stand up straight and pin your elbow to your side. Then rotate your arm out, palm facing in (so the back of your hand leads the rotation). Keep your traps out of it (in other words, don't shrug; keep your shoulders down). Keep your elbow in, and rotate as far as you can (or until it starts to hurt). How does this feel?
*Note I'm not a doctor or a PT or an ART guy... I've just run across this a few times with clients, so feel free to ignore this and wait for the doctor if you don't like this suggestion!

Thanks for the suggestion Ian. Yesterday I tried to move it in the "uncomfortable" way and it didn't really bother me. I could feel it at the very end of the stretch, but that was it. I shot some basketball to try and warm it up and it seemed fine. I could feel a little soreness afterward, like if someone gave me a deadarm the day before kind of feeling, but nothing bad. I went ahead and did a light workout today of upperbody to see how it handled the weight. It was fine. I'm keeping my new doctors appointment to see what they say though.
