Default Another shoulder pain

For those who remember, I have spinal stenosis in the C4-C5 area. I haven't done much lifting in over a year, primarily due to the discomfort in my neck and shoulder area. I've been to a number of doctors, but haven't found anyone who has been able to help me with the pain. In fact, no one has even referred me to a PT to help me get therapy or corrective exercises. I've been trying to implement some exercises from Robertson and Verstegen to improve my posture and make the scapular area stronger--I have the hunched over syndrome. It seems to help my back, but doesn't do much for the neck.

I tried to bench press and do dips today and both caused pain in the shoulder socket area. Since I haven't done this exercises for at least 6 months, I wouldn't think it is a muscle imbalance-it seems to be right in the joint. Could this be connected to the problems in the neck? What else can I do?

Definitely related ... you really should just ASK the MD for a PT referral ... some things just need in-person correction!!! I do applaud you for trying to work on it yourself ... what you probably want to spend some time focusing on is mobility and corrective exercises and lay off the weights until you have been consistent with that for a few weeks. Do you have Inside Out? That would be a good place to start ... if you don't have it, let me know and I can suggest some exercises (although IO might be a worthy investment and much more comprehensive than I might be).

I have asked 3 different doctors to refer me to a PT and they all said that I didn't need it. They also gave me their "recommendation" for my workouts--it was really a joke. I can't believe I had to waste time and money to see these con-artists. If you're going to be a doctor, you should at least stay current with exercises that will help the body! The one doctor said I should just focus on arm curls and bench press. Great....
