Default Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (Carticel)

Anyone have experience rehabbing after one of these surgeries, either as a patient or as a doc/PT? I saw one person several pages down who has, but anyone else?

It's a pretty new surgery ... you might try to email or PM SunshineChick ... she's the one who posted about it ... she has had the surgery (I believe) and is also a PT ...

Default Thanks

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone else who has experience with rehabbing this surgery. I'm six months out from mine and have some questions.

Carticel, and treatments similar to it, have actually been around for a long time. It just never really caught on.

It's only useful in those with a very localized area of cartilage damage. It's not useful for those with osteoarthritis/ "wear and tear arthritis".

I'll leave the rehab question for others with experience with that.

Default Carticel Implantation, R/ knee

I have Osteo CHondroitis Dissecans in both knees. My right knee is worse than the other so thats where I had the implantation put. Well a long story short my knee is NOT cooperating! It will not full extend. I walk w/ a limp, and I have pain from standing or extending it while walking. I got my surgery in Nov. Of 2007. If I knew all of this I would have just stuck w/ the orthoscopy surgery which they first gave me. My doc says that it will take a while BUT my thinking is Life sux a bit now. I am 38yrs old. I really hope there is someone else out there that can gimme some advice or just some hope to carry on. Thanx -Daniel
P.S I am in a Dynoslint now trying to help my leg get it's full extension.
