Default Wedding Day - Broke Tailbone!!

Yes. I have a friend who fell down a flight of stairs 3 hours after her wedding. She endured the pain and continued on her Jamaican Honeymoon. Saw the doc after returning and, indeed, she had broke her tail bone. Doctor gave her a donut to set on..told her to sleep on her tummy to keep the weight off it. We are bringing her one of those kneeling chairs to work on at her desk.

She asked me about possible exercises she could do in her situation. She is very fit and hits the gym every day. But will be taking a couple of weeks off to recoup.. She wants to know what, if any, exercises she can do on returning to the gym that will not cause a problem. Anything she does at this point hurts including picking up a suitcase..etc.

Anyone have experience with a cracked butt? (I've been just waiting to say that) I got smacked when I mentioned it to her. I deserved it. umm. Bless her heart.

Any advice will be appreciated.

I broke my coccyx as a youth ... not a fun injury, and it bothered me for years and years (and probably was a major reason for the lazy glutes I had!) I also rebroke it during the delivery of my older daughter ... not fun since all you do after childbirth is sit around and be a milk factory!

She will want to ice it as much as she can tolerate. It will help a lot with the pain. If BMs hurt, she should take a stool softener (you can buy colace over the counter).

It won't hurt anything to do some gluteal sets (just squeezing her butt muscles). Otherwise I would say it will take 4-6 weeks to heal sufficiently (assuming we are talking coccyx and not sacrum).

I think this might be one of those times when pain can be her guide. If it hurts, don't do it. If it doesn't hurt, then it's an exercise she can do. Gentle trial and error.

Been a bit since I checked this post..thanks to all who answered. Appreciate it tons.

I will pass along everything said here. Sounds like she has to be very very patient. Injuries are the pits.
