Some of you may recall I was having trouble with my right knee, and y'all were very helpful.
NROL without legs
I went to my family physician today. He examined my knee by manipulation, determined that my collateral ligaments and cruciate ligaments were intact, and that I did not have meniscus damage. He drew a diagram showing me what he had done to reach this conclusion. Based on my symptoms and tenderness, he did determine that I have bursitis.
Now, I know he's not a sports injury specialist, etc., and he tends to treat conservatively. I've been with him a long time and trust him. But I'm not sure how much expertise he has in this field. That's why I'm coming to y'all.
He suggested that I lay off squats and lunges until I have strengthened my quads, because he said weak quads were what was causing the bursitis.
He recommended that I do leg extensions to strengthen my quads, prescribed a strong anti-inflammatory, and recommend that I ice the knee for about 30 minutes after working it, then apply heat later. He said I could return to squats and lunges after I had sufficiently strengthened my quads.
I thought I had pretty strong quads (they've gotten much bigger since starting NROL), so I'm surprised that the bursitis might be caused by weak leg muscles.
I greatly respect your opinions here and would like some guidance. Agree with the doc? Disagree? Should I do different exercises? Treatment alternatives? I'm anxious to get back in the swing.
Thanks so much!
PS -- On a good note, I went to see him back in January and weighed in around 267-269, I was 239 on the scale this afternoon! BP was 120 over 82.
