Default Lumbar Kyphosis and how to deal

Bill,

Regarding a recent flare-up I've had with compressed lumbar facets I've become aware that I have less than normal lordosis in the lumbar and am working on how to deal with it.

Two of my siblings that lift have dealt with the identical situation by limiting/eliminating spinal loading and instead doing lots of lunges, step-ups, back extension on stability ball, much core work etc...

I'm wondering if in your opinion power work such as bb cleans or even kettlebell swings/snatches would be contraindicated?

Thanks for all your help!

btw I'm going to get on some ART treatment.

What's your symptom pattern? Painful movements?

Back extension on a swiss ball would be a no-no for lumbar facet issues.

Thanks Bill.

No back extensions - check!

My symptoms are pain and tightness in the right upper hip/lumbar region. Less on the left side - though the left side had more inflammation this past week. No pain radiating down the leg however.

Prior to the most recent inflammation in low back musculature my glute max and med became very tight along with tight hip flexors. Some medial pain in the left knee as well (from the sacroilliac/lumbar dysfunction possibly?).

Hyperextension or anything causing compression leads to tightness and pain. Rotation however is fine.

Currently I'm doing lots of stretching on my back pulling knees to chest and hanging from a pullup bar, trying to open up space between facets.

I'm resigned to the fact of how my lumbar is structured, and it is feeling much better after treatment this week but I'm wondering how to proceed with lower body work safely and to prevent future flare-ups.

Thanks again for all your help.

Chris

P.S. My clients & I have been putting Inside Out to good use. I'm getting alot of comments along the lines of "my shoulders have never felt better."
