Default Ouch! What was that popping???

Hey folks,

I've been trolling at the NROL for awhile and was directed over here. Hopefully someone can help!

1. When did the pain begin?
Yesterday during my workout

2. What were you doing at the time? Or did the pain come on gradually over time?
I was doing lunges with a side bend. I lunged with my right leg, bent towards the right and felt it in the front of my left hip. It was very sudden.

3. Where, anatomically, is the pain?
The very front of the hip at the top of the quad, than up to the groin

4. What does the pain feel like? Sharp? Dull? Aching? Stabbing? Shooting?
At first, It felt like there were three guitar stings next to each other that broke near the groin! Since than its stiffened up when seated for awhile and is a dull ache.

5. Is the pain constant, or intermittent, or only on certain motions?
I feel it when rocking the hips forward or when seated for awhile

6. What motions make your pain worse?
See above
7. What, if anything, makes your pain better?
Hot tub helped alot. Walking or laying down.

8. Does your pain radiate to any other part of your body?
No
9. What things could you do before, that you cannot do now because of your injury?

10. What is your main concern regarding the pain and its consequences?
I still have mobility. Is it safe to work out other body parts despite the dull ache?
11. Have you ever injured that part of your body before? If so, how?
No
12. Is your pain getting worse over time? And if so, how much worse over what time period?
No

I suspect I strained or pulled a hip flexor. If so, what is the proper therapy?

Thanks!!

I concur.

Rest - for a few days
Ice - 20 minutes at a time, several times per day
Compression - if it is swelling or continually aching you can do a hip spica wrap with an ACE wrap
Elevation - lie down when you can

In a few days when it is more stiff than sore you can start GENTLY stretching it. You might just be one of those people who has tight hip flexors and they will be prone to injury. You might need to add in some mobilty and activation work for them prior to your warm-up/workout.

HTH,
Julie
