Default Close Grip Bench Presses - Wrist Pain

Last night I did my heavy set on close grip BP's and today my wrists are very sore for the first time ever. When I bend my hand downward and apply pressure to the bend, I can really feel a sharp pain on the top part of my wrist. Would my form be an issue or do I just need to get used to doing these heavy?

Probably just need to get used to them ... how does it feel now?

How close is your grip? I've seen people do extreme close-grips before, and I can practically feel the future wrist pain by the angle at the bottom of the lift. Obviously it depends on your arm length, but generally staying on the knurling is a good idea (as opposed to gripping the smooth middle)... and if you have long arms, it might be even wider.

What was your arm position during the press? When I'm doing CG presses my arms are very close to my sides and the bar comes to the bottom of my ribcage. Using that position never bothers my wrists.

They feel great a week later, I probably just need to get used to them. I do have long arms but I do grip it just outside the smooth part of the bar. OldGuy, I did adjust my form to do this recently, so hopefully that will help.
