Default 7 year old clavicle injury

Hello, My name is Chris. I’m a 31 years old. I’ve been lurking here for what seems like years. I have found the site to be very useful. I have recently started training seriously again. I am on phase 3 of TAP. I am planning on starting NROL Break in in 3 weeks.

I need some advice on a shoulder injury that I got about 7 years ago. I broke my right clavicle in June of 99. I never went in and had it looked at. I have noticed for years that It feels kind of of out of place. It also pops a bit when I swing my entire arm around. What really made me start thinking about this injury again was doing deadlifts this morning at the gym. When I come to the top of the deadlift movement I noticed in the mirror that my right hand is about 3 inches lower when holding the barbell. So what im saying is my shoulder sags that far on my right side. There is also a good size bump on my soulder from where it healed.

I know it seems very late to be thinking about an injury like this. It seems to have fully healed and I can lift a decent amount on my deadlifts. Is this worth going in and seeing if I can be straightened out? Could shoulder strengthening fix it?

Thanks

Chris

Generally speaking, clavicle fractures are rarely surgically fixed. At most, patients are slightly immobilized for a few weeks.

The question I have, which you may not may not be able to answer, is whether you also had an AC joint separation or other concurrent injury in addition to fracturing your clavicle.

There are at least two reasons why your shoulder is the way it is:

1) You've got some correctable shoulder issue that can be addressed by something like Inside Out.

2) You've got a ligamentous problem with the AC joint itself, or an unresolved connective tissue injury

3) Your clavicle has actually somehow changed the morphology of your shoulder in terms of how your shoulder blade and your shoulder joint rest in relation to the rest of your body.

The problem with any of these three things is that it's impossible to tell online which one of these things it is, short of you taking pictures or video. If it's not bothering you very much, then you may elect not to see someone about it. But it's stressing you out or is causing pain or enough dysfunction that you're bothered by it, then you should see a physician to see which of the three (or more) possibilities it actually is, and what the best way would be to correct it (which you may or may not be interested in).
