Default Please help with hip/lower back pain

For the past year or so I've had a chronic, dull pain at my right hip. The pain fluctuates over time. When it's at its worse, it radiates around to my lower back and to a greater area of the hip. But usually it's just a dull pain at the right hip.

I would greatly appreciate any help. Alternatively, if it's not feasible to help me over the internet, I would also appreciate it if someone could refer me to a specialist for this type of injury in the New York City area. I have no idea who to see about this, or even what type of specialist (PT, doctor, etc) would be appropriate. Since I have no health insurance, I don't want to waste money on the wrong type of treatment.

I've answered all the questions from the sticky below:

1. When did the pain begin?
A: About 1 year ago.
2. What were you doing at the time? Or did the pain come on gradually over time?
A: The pain usually flares up the next day after weight training, but it also flares up at other random times, including during training.
3. Where, anatomically, is the pain?
A: Right hip area, sometimes radiating around to lower back.
4. What does the pain feel like? Sharp? Dull? Aching? Stabbing? Shooting?
A: Generally dull, but occasionally sharp, shooting and/or aching.
5. Is the pain constant, or intermittent, or only on certain motions?
A: Constant.
6. What motions make your pain worse?
A: Squat/deadlift variations.
7. What, if anything, makes your pain better?
A: Time.
8. Does your pain radiate to any other part of your body?
A: Yes, to lower back (usually right side) and to a larger area of right hip.
9. What things could you do before, that you cannot do now because of your injury?
A: Squat and deadlift regularly.
10. What is your main concern regarding the pain and its consequences?
A: Main concern re: pain is that I won't be able to do the lifts I want to do. My main concern about the consequences is that I will eventually need surgery or another serious medical procedure.
11. Have you ever injured that part of your body before? If so, how?
A: No.
12. Is your pain getting worse over time? And if so, how much worse over what time period?
A: Yes, lately it has gotten worse, both in terms of magnitude of pain, frequency of flare ups, and duration.

Josh, I believe that NY has direct access (meaning that you do not have to see a physician first to get a referral to physical therapy). I would highly recommend Australian Physiotherapy Centers (APC). They have several sites in the NYC area.

Asphalt Green, 4th floor, 1750 York Avenue, Cnr. 91st Street
Tel: 212-369-5980

Greenwich Village, 17 E 13th St (near 5th Avenue) ground floor
Tel: (212) 691-6303

Mattituck, on the corner of Marys Rd and the North Rd (Rt 48) one block East of Wickham Ave.
Tel: (631) 298-5367

I believe that they will be able to help you in short order! Best of luck ...
