Angry Lateral foot pain... owie!!!

Over the last couple of days, the lateral side (on the bottom) of my right foot has been hurting. It started Sunday night, and has been getting progressively worse. Today at work, I stepped off the elevator, and it felt like my foot broke. So I hopped back to my desk, felt around for swelling, knots, etc. Nothing. After rubbing on it for a minute, the pain subsided. I get up to get a drink, and it's worse now than ever.

So, I poked around some more, working my way up my calves, and noticed that the lateral head of my gastroc is EXTREMELY tight. I've been doing some extra ankle mobility work lately, which has stretched my calves out some.

Could this have lead to the tight gastroc, which in turn is causing my foot pain?

Steve,
If you remember my thread about my ankle sprain suffered over 8 months ago. I have the same type of pain you are referring to EVERY MORNING upon awakening...but after a few steps and about 3- 5 minutes, its goes away. I have rolled a tennis ball on the bottom of my foot 2x/week and it has helped the pain to minimize in duration.

That's why I've been doing the extra mobility, because of my sprain last year. The odd thing is that I sprained my left ankle, but now it's my right foot that's hurting.

I'm going to do some extra rolling on the calf and bottom of my foot. Hopefully that'll help.

Your peroneals (lateral calf muscles) attach to the lateral part of the bottom of your foot ... so the calf being tight could certainly contribute to this pain along the bottom of your foot ...

It probably is the peroneus, but my gastroc is extremely tight... almost to the point of cramped. Looks like I'm walking around on my tippie toes. I've been kneading the stuffins out of my calves, and I must say, my foot is already feeling better. Now my calf hurts.

I'm sorry that I have nothing constructive to add to this discussion, though I find it fascinating, but I totally cracked at "stuffins"
