Horrible Mid-back pain
Tuesday and Wednesday of this week I was sick with a cold/allergy symptoms. I took off both days and slept for about 12 hours each day. Wednesday afternoon when I woke up my back hurt some, I brushed it off and didn't think much of it. This morning I woke up about 30 minutes before I had to get ready for work and my back was killing me. No matter how I laid it hurt. I usually avoid taking tylenol because I never ache bad enough to warrant it, but this morning I took two.
The pain is in a large area across the middle of my back spreading out to my sides. Even right now, sitting in a chair, it still hurts, but not as much. I can only imagine I'll have trouble sleeping tonight because of it.
I'm planning on getting a heating pad shortly. Is this a good idea? Someone recommended a coldpack to me, but heat sounds like the best choice. Would doing some seated rows (or something similar to try to work that area) be a good idea or would it only make it worse?

It may be a kidney infection. That would cause mid back flank pain radiating out. Go see your doc they can tell you in about five minutes if that is what it is. If that is the case they will put you on antibiiotics to clear up the infection. Good luck and keep us updated

Wow, I hope its not that. The bad spots are about 2-3 inches below the bottom of my shoulder blades. Kidney issues would be felt further down toward the lower back region, right?

Nope sorry they are felt any where from the area you are talking about to the mid back. Referred pain. Kidney infection is easy to clear up though if you don't take care of it it can get nasty. Basically you get kidney infection most of the time from a bladder infection that has travelled up to the kidney's. A simple round of antibiotics takes care of it pretty quick. You may not have one but I would go get it ruled out as thats the first thing that came to mind when reading your post.

I'm feeling much better today, barely felt it this morning. I got a heating pad Friday and used it a few times that day. It relieved a lot of the pain. I feel much better now when I wake up in the morning.
More than likely, I was just over-reacting to being sick. I just can't think of another time when I've been so miserable. But the pain is 99% gone now and I'm over my sickness.
