Pushups Videos for Scap Analysis
Ok, so I finally found the time to get my roommate to video me doing pushups in various positions.
The first set is with feet elevated, then, after the transition, regular pushups (slow and then normal speed) and then closer-grip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLKg47SxcKA
Essentially I'm looking for problems with my scaps, upper back, etc. which have lead to my shoulder pain.
My massage guy has consistently found that the the teres minor and infraspinatus attachment is irritated. When he works on it it feels better.
Thanks everyone!

You're not the only one, karky. I think perhaps youtube may be overloaded at the moment and it might be up later. We'll see.

The first link works for me Ian. But your camera man makes me dizzy! HA!
You have beautiful muscles in your upper back, too.

Thanks, Lisa!
Any thoughts on the scaps? Or is the camera work that distracting?

No, no, no! You are implying a motive that was totally not there!
Sorry for the veering, Ian!

Ian, it appears to me that you have some winging on both sides, a bit worse on the right ... it's hard to tell from the camera angles (and because you are taking a 3D image and flattening it out) ...
I'd have to go back and read the other thread, but are you doing serratus exercises? Push up plus, etc?

Yes, I've been doing more of those... I'm unsure about the necessary frequency of them, but I'm donig them twice a week, 2x15 each time.
Thanks Julie.

Are you doing these still? In my experience it will take more than a few weeks to make an instability go away entirely ... you can add prone TYIs to work your lower traps ...
Bill and Mike also comment on your increased thoracic kyphosis in the other video ... so be sure to do the stuff from I/O that will increase thoracic extension like the foam rolling, lat stretching, etc. Also make a conscious effort to stand/sit with increased thoracic extension. Imagine trying to make yourself taller by lifting your sternum up toward the sky.
Are you doing pushing exercises again? What effect are they having on the impingement?

Oh yes, I'm definitely doing the exercises, and have jsut started working on the thoracic extension stuff. I'm willing to give it plenty of time.
And the pushups I did yesterday for this videop were the first pressing movements I had done in a full month. I am planning on incorporating some of them into the weekly routine now, though. I also plan to keep the volume low. I'm competely pulling this out of my ass, but for whatever reason 3:1 ("rehab" vs. pressing) sounded good to me. Correct me if I'm just insane.

Ok, I just bit the bullet and ordered I/O. I was waiting for more $$$ to appear in my account, but that's just never gonna happen. Heh.
I think together with MM and the advice I've gotten here I should be in good shape by the summit... if I figure out how to GET to the summit.
