Default Upper right trap injury- nagging pain.

Hi all
Was doing pullups a week ago. Felt a burning pain in the trap. Went to chriopractioner and he said it could be a small tear in the muscle. Is Ice the best for this? What else can be injured there? a nerve? If so, what steps should I take for this?

Ash

1. When did the pain begin?

2. What were you doing at the time? Or did the pain come
on gradually over time?
Was doing pullups.

3. Where, anatomically, is the pain?
Where the neck and the upper trap meet. The pain is under the muscle, not the muscle itself.

4. What does the pain feel like? Sharp? Dull? Aching? Stabbing? Shooting?
Sharp burning pain.

5. Is the pain constant, or intermittent, or only on certain motions? Certain motions

6. What motions make your pain worse?
Looking straight up, or fully down.

7. What, if anything, makes your pain better?
Not moving my neck much.

8. Does your pain radiate to any other part of your body?
Nope.

9. What things could you do before, that you cannot do now because of your injury?
Lift heavy I guess

10. What is your main concern regarding the pain and its consequences?
Its very annoying, plus it makes me wonder if there is anything else underlying here.

11. Have you ever injured that part of your body before? If so, how? Nope.

12. Is your pain getting worse over time? And if so, how much worse over what time period? Not getting worse.

I spoke to one doctor, and he said its the nerve that is giving out this pain. Any suggestions?

Ashley

Burning pain is often nerve-related ... but the injury sounds like a facet joint strain ... ice is definitely good ... avoid doing anything that stresses it ... make sure you are sleeping in a good position (there are several threads that address this if you do a search). Do you plan to see the chiro again?

I might, when I have more cash. Anything I can do to calm the nerve? Over the counter medication?

Update us on the pain? How does it feel today? I've actually seen this injury alot, people are not strong enough for pull-ups or fatigue and attempt to compensate with shrugging motions of their upper traps.
