Bill, shoulder question?
Bill,
I have purchased I/O, and I love it. An MRI shows a mild impingement in right shoulder. I went to a ART guy this week that worked on my rotator cuff muscles, rhomboids, levator scapulae, and even my lower lats a bit. The ART practioner seemed very knowledgeable about anatomy and biomechanics.... I was going to continue with I/O but he suggested that I perform lying "Y" raises on the floor every day. Simliar to the superman exercise but with no leg movement. He wants me to work up to 3 sets of 50 of this exercise. He also wants me to do 2 external rotator cuff exercises (similar to ones I have seen Mike Robertson recommend)....I realize this is just over the internet, but does this sound like enough to improve my situation to you? Should I abandon I/O for a while and focus on this, or does that sound crazy? Here is my situation:
1. When did the pain begin? 7 YEARS AGO
2. What were you doing at the time? Or did the pain come on gradually over time? I WAS IN THE POLICE ACADEMY, HOWEVER I HAVE KYPHOSIS/ROUNDED SHOULDERS AS WELL.
3. Where, anatomically, is the pain? FRONT OF RIGHT SHOULDER, BY THE BICIPITAL GROVE.
4. What does the pain feel like? Sharp? Dull? Aching? Stabbing? Shooting? ACHING.
5. Is the pain constant, or intermittent, or only on certain motions? INTERMITTENT
6. What motions make your pain worse? PRESSING MOVEMENTS, I CAN'T EVEN DO PUSHUPS RIGHT NOW, BUT MOST ROWS ARE FINE.
7. What, if anything, makes your pain better? HEAT, OR MY REHAB EXERCISES GETTING BLOOD FLOW IN THERE
8. Does your pain radiate to any other part of your body? YES. I ALSO HAVE DISCOMFORT IN MY UPPER BACK/THORACIC SPINE REGION
9. What things could you do before, that you cannot do now because of your injury? BENCH PRESS, PULLUPS, AND PUSHUPS
10. What is your main concern regarding the pain and its consequences? I'D LIKE TO BE ABLE TO DO PUSHUPS AGAIN AND FEEL MOE STABILITY IN MY SHOULDER FOR WORK.
11. Have you ever injured that part of your body before? If so, how? NO, I THINK IT IS MORE OF A GRADUAL INJURY
12. Is your pain getting worse over time? And if so, how much worse over what time period? IT HAS GOTTEN A LITTLE BETTER FROM REHAB EXERCISES, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL LINGERS. I ONLY RECENTLY FOCUSED ON MY BACK THANKS TO I/O!
Any advice is appreciated so much!
