Default Advice on Knee problem

I had a MRI done on my knee recently, after some pain issues, and was diagnosed with a “complex tear of the lateral meniscus”. Is there working around this injury or is surgery the only answer? Doc is hesitant because of some arthritis problems but will do Arthro if I push the issue. I have avoided heavy leg work, sticking with wall slides and DB Stepups. Advice anyone?

i had a tear in my lateral meniscus back in march 2004. i got surgery on it to remove part of my meniscus in late may 2004, so 3 months after the initial injury. 2 weeks before surgery, i started going to see a physical therapist to strengten the muscles arouind my leg, because i neglected to do any work at all before then, so it was pretty weak.

though i didn't have any arthritis problems - surgery was recommended in my case. 3 years out, i can do everything i did back then. took a lot of work and i still have lots to do in terms of working around scar tissue (i need to do lots more soft-tissue work), but other than that i can do everything i used to do before the injury.

i know in some cases surgery isn't needed, but i would keep talking to your doctor and get in touch with a good orthopedic and talk to them about the options if your just talking to your regular doctor
