Default bad bed???

We bought a new bed not that long ago. It was about the firmest mattress available. SINCE THEN, I've had back spasms and the back just doesn't feel quite right. Could it actually be the bed??? Is "firm" not always good???

I know there are lots of other considerations but the basic question is whether or not really firm mattresses are the best, all the time.

I'm not Bill, but what I'm thinking is if it's too firm, it may not allow your upper back and buttocks to sink enough so that the springs support your lumbar region, thus your lumbar falls flat causing muscles to tense for eight hours attempting to keep the curve.

As a side question without hijacking, is anyone familiar with the tempur-pedic foam mattress? Any good? More hype than delivery?

We bought a temperpedic mattress for our son and that is the best mattress I've ever laid down on. Every time we have company they get his bed and they don't want to leave! When he's not home, I sleep in his room!

My bed is a Sleep Number bed and I do like it, but the temperpedic is better IMO.

Well, I guess I'll have to start saving my pennies.

I think there is a consensus now that the firmest mattress seldom is the best or most comfortable. If you can't take it back but a cushy pad for it, many of the most expensive mattresses are quite firm with the soft cushion on the top.

Oh SO agreed! We got our tempurpedic before we lost weight. It was great 100/80 pounds ago, and it's still kick butt now. We miss it so much when we're away from home. People really do overlook how important a good bed is, it seems.
