Default Neck injury

1. When did the pain begin? 4 weeks ago
2. What were you doing at the time? Or did the pain come on gradually over time? Most likely heavy shrugs--I had a slight lean forward.
3. Where, anatomically, is the pain? Upper left trap, left side of neck.
4. What does the pain feel like? Sharp? Dull? Aching? Stabbing? Shooting? Dull and aching. If I suddendly move, its sharp.
5. Is the pain constant, or intermittent, or only on certain motions? Constant--hurts on and off half of the day.
6. What motions make your pain worse? Turning my neck left or moving my neck left to my shoulder. Turning my neck right, chin towards middle of chest, putting pressure on the left side of my neck.
7. What, if anything, makes your pain better? I'd say hot/cold shower, advil, and icy hot. Though really just temporary.
8. Does your pain radiate to any other part of your body? No.
9. What things could you do before, that you cannot do now because of your injury? I can't lift upper any upper body movements.
10. What is your main concern regarding the pain and its consequences? I can't lift and can't wrestle.
11. Have you ever injured that part of your body before? If so, how? Nope.
12. Is your pain getting worse over time? And if so, how much worse over what time period? Nope the same.

I have been going to the chriopracter for 2weeks. It has done nothing. I keep trying all different kinds of things ice/heat, espom salt, advil, arnica, etc. This pain is a tough one to crack. Some days I try to stretch my neck or do light shrugs. I am able to lift legs and do running. Througout I have done biceps and triceps exercises but these are limited. One day I even did heavy machine chest presses. Another day I lifted 50lb logs and split wood for 20 mins. haha that was a bad idea. I'm thinking its a muscle pull in my neck or something with a disc. Who knows? Any input would be helpful. Thanks Ricky .

Read the other neck pain post. It has you name written all over it. The forward lean shrug overloads the levator scapula. Manipulations usually don't resolve it. Some soft-tissue work or tennis ball self-myofascial release will help a great deal.

Once this resolves you need to focus on middle and lower trap work.

Welp, here I am almost a week later. The injury has gotten a little better, but not much. Hartman- I read the other neck pain post. Thanks for the help. I went ahead and tried some strengthing exercises such as barbell overhead and squeeze traps, face down on incline bench with light dumbbells and raise, and scap pushups. (pushups caused more irration then others so I stopped.) It didn't have much of negative or positive effect. I don't know what tennis ball self myofascial is soo I went ahead and tried to roll a tennis ball on my neck to relieve trigger points lolz. That just lead to more stiffness and soreness.

As of my condition right now, the whole entire area around my upper traps and neck are decked with soreness. Not all the bad type though. Most kind of like oh I had a hard workout. Something new to note. When I am sleeping I can feel my neck pulsating. Its probably from the icy hot. Its kind of like the EMS or EDS stimulator they put me on in the chiro but my body is doing it haha.

The future-- I'm thinking I am going to find some neck exercises to do. I am increasing my fish oil caps and taking at least 1 advil a day. If all this fails, I'll prob try and see some type of expert and they will heal me. Yay .
