Default Leg Press Back Injury

Yesterday I was on the front squat leg press machine when during the lowering motion I felt a a snap in my lower back. I pressed the weight back up without much pain. I had a similar injury a few months ago while squatting so I figured It was less likely to happen again on the leg press machine but no such luck. Last night and today I've had extremely bad spasm when trying to walk upright. Much worse then when i injured my back a few months back squatting. The most comfortable position is in bed in the fetal position. I stuck a menthol patch on the area and it seems to have helped a little. I am also taking advil. My job requires a fair amount of walking and im worried how long this may take me out of commission. Is there anything else i could do at this point?

Ice ... ice .... and more ice ... and make an appointment to see a physician and get a referral to a good PT (not one who will just do hot pack, ultrasound, and massage!!) ... one who will look at your specific movement patterns and weaknesses/inflexibilities and teach you the things to do to correct and prevent this from happening again ...

thanks for your response. Is it normal to get real tight after the ice? I iced it for 20 minutes and it got all tensed up.

Do you have any pain or numbness in your leg?

Have you made an appointment to see your doctor? if not it's worth your time, don't take chances with your back.

couldn't deal with the pain anymore so I went to the doc yesterday. Took x- rays of my spine as well kidneys to rule out kidney stones. Both tests came back negative. Put me on the relaxant/pain killer cocktail skelaxin and vicodine. I was hesitant to take the vicodine but advils weren't cutting it so I needed to step it up. I'm hoping i can get back to work this week.

Also, stop using the leg press. It's worthless

I used to squat but that is where I initially hurt my lower back so i moved to leg press. What do you suggest in lieu of the leg press.

thanks
