Default Is a jacknobber a good tool for ART?

I've the foam roller, PVC and tennis ball but they don't seem to provide the kind of pressure I need for my shoulders and traps. I need help quick as my shoulders are always in an elevated state. I do not know if this is due to tight traps or a weak back but it is severely handicapping my weight-training.

Has anyone experimented with a jacknobber? It appears that the pressure is more focused because of the smaller surface area in contact with the skin. Any ideas would be very much affected.

Why don't you go get a professional consultation? One appointment with a good ART guy and he'll let you know what the problem (and solution) is.

I had the same problem!

I have a knot I have been working on for days that is in my trap area and kinda under my shoulder blade.. I jsut can't get high enough on the foam roller.. I used my trusty shaft of my 7 iron and have rubbed it out some..
Not sure if this recommended but it seemed to work!!

I've never tried the jacknobber, but it makes me think of the theracane because it's just a smaller, harder surface that will get into the muscle deeper. I also need a lot of pressure to work on the knots around my scapulae. I use a baseball, but I just happen to have a lot of baseballs around my house because my son plays that sport. I think if it's working for you, then it's all good.

As far as your shoulders being constantly elevated, I would suggest starting by working your shoulder depressors. Do prone Ys for time and lower trap raises. See if those exercises bring you some relief. Also, just awareness of your posture and correcting it as often as possibly throughout the day.

A foam roller is a tool of many to do the trick. I personally like a strong thumb. Foam roller today, something else tomorrow. I have used a knobber with my athletes of some sort for years, before most people have heard of a roller. So yes, use it well
