Default Herniated Disk

Hey I'm looking for advice from any and everybody,
so I was recently diagnosed by CAT scan with a small to moderate central and left paramedian disk herniation at L4-5 and chronic unilateral L5 spondylolysis without associated spondylolisthesis...which sucks, but good news is I've been completely pain free for over 2 weeks. I'm doing my research because otherwise I have to just sit around until I see a spine and sport medicine MD November 6. Also my doctor, who for various reasons has lost my faith told me I shouldn't lift anything more than 15 pounds, mind you that he hasn't talked to me since I saw him before the CAT scan and I've gotten all my information from his secretary. Which brings me to the first question is 15 pounds realistic or just the same number he gives little old ladies as well? 2nd I figure that spinal flexsion is out of the question as well as major loading, but what can I do in the mean time (I was thinking core stabilization stuff, bodyweight exercises and maybe sled dragging)? Lastly and very much open ended, does anyone have any other suggestions that may help this process?
thanks for the help
Ned
