Pain in my ass!! Ok really back but close enough!
Ok I decided to post here. To much conflicting advice to do or not to do things. So on to the pain in my ass ermm lower back.
About three weeks ago I was squatting when a inconsiderate fellow backed into my bar. Normally I would have let the weights drop but someone was walking behind me so that was not possible. At any rate something happened with my back. I took three weeks off to be sure that it healed but it seems to have not made a difference. The first couple days after the incident were the worst as far as pain. I used heat and Advil, then I went on vacation. I thought I would be safe to workout yesterday as my back felt pretty good, not so. The first set of squats made my back ache. It still aches a little this morning, so now I am afraid to continue working out. Part of me thinks I should just work through the pain. I don't really know what to do. The next workout calls for deadlifts and Romain deadlifts .
Nature of the pain- It seems to be only on the return motion of squats, deadlifts and Rdl's, or picking up my son, that I notice it the most. Twisting my upper body to the left seems to trouble me a little to. If I get a heavy patient at work I am afraid I won't be capable of lifting them.
The fellow bumped the right side of the bar. The bar was loaded with 175lbs, I weigh 125lbs. Any ideas on how I can get my back to where I was prior to the accident? Any ideas on what I can sub in for deads and back squats? I have a hx of sciatica, but it usually only bothers me if I sleep funny, and the pain is different quality and location wise. The program I am on is FL1.
Thanks for any help fixing my problem. Here is a pic of where the pain is.

Jenn, there's a few things that can influence that area. Are you point tender anywhere?
Any pain with a deep lunge with either foot forward or a side split?

Hey Bill thanks for the response! Closer to the spine if I push on it hard is a bit tender. No pain with lunges or side split just on squats when I hit 90 degrees and getting up, and on deads on the rising motion. I have been to a friend that does ART and he put me through about a 1 hour session. I was sore as hell later that day and still tender today. No picking up my kids for a bit I think! My whole right side seems to be a little screwy, the IQ band and glutes seem tight, and any work on the glutes tiggers pain in the highlighted area. There is also a point just inside the right hipbone that feels like it was on fire when it was worked. Right now the area I pointed out is still tender and such when I do those movements. It aches when I don't do much either right now because we irriated the heck out of the nerves. The work was done on monday after I did FL1 A-2 workout.

Sit with you legs crossed man-style (right over left ankle resting on opposite thigh) and lean forward. If this reproduces the pain, have your guy work on psoas and piriformis and possibly gluteus medius.
If the test is negative, work more on spinal erectors.

Awesome, this is the exact pain and place that I feel. I guess this does verify what I need to work.

Jenn, I am interested to see how this helps. Could you keep me posted so when I get home I may look into ART. Thanks!

greg, here is the article. You can google Dr. Leahy and I believe he has a link to search for places that provide ART around the US
