Default Ice + Lower back

Hey all I recently jacked up my back pretty good. Hyperextended it i believe. I was playing tackle football and I landed on my stomach and bent backwards. I wrapped my stomach in an ace wrap (light brown) through out my whole stomach area to give support while knowing not to continusuly leave it on. When I went home, I took my protein shake, advil, fish oil, and layed in a comfy position w. my legs at a 90 degree angle. I did some hamstring stretchs. I went for a couple light walks. I put arnica muscle rub on 2 times. Later on I took a hot/cold contrast shower.

The next day I put a heat pack on it when i woke up. I'm barely able to put my socks on. I know the best thing to do is stay active while being careful. I go in the gym with my ace wrap incase i needed extra support on any lifts to slide it up from my hips. While in the locker room a personal trainer sees this and is really confused. Lets just say he didn't even listen to what I was saying and thought w.e. he said was money. He said "you should have iced it after the injury and after a workout." Basically, he was shocked I didn't ice it. My response was "whenever I ice my back it stiffness up and I can't move." He says (haha) "I'm stiff when I'm trying to get into my car."

To spare more details basically last time I injured my back I iced it for 20 mins on 20 mins off etc. I felt very stiff and ANY movement even near being wrong would be likely to set it off again. Is icing necessary after an injury like that? Any other body part I wouldn't have trouble icing.

My advice? Stay with the ice for a few more days (usually 3-4 days post acute injury)

start heat on the 5th day (moist heat if you got it)

It is impossible to know what you did from a post, so to be safe (always with a low back problem) you might want to get it checked out by a doc.

Ice, Advil, Rest for now
