Default If I pull my groin shouldn't I enjoy it?

O.K. Some background w/o a life story; in high school, the navy, and two years after that through college, Squats were a fun part of my legs day. Today, and for the last 6 years or so Squats are avoided because no matter how much I stretch, warm up, pre-exhaust, change bar position or adjust weight, what I can count on is a pulled groin. I either cramp up as I bend my legs to settle under the bar for my second set, or I feel a sensation as if a spring has lost tension in my groin. If I want to I could continue my sets even with much heavier weights, it doesn't seem to affect my streangth, I will just suffer for it for a 2 weeks or I can stop at that point and suffer for a week. The weight could be two 10 pound plates and the bar or 225. Recently I have addressed some pretty seriouse flexability issues in my hip flexors and associated range of motion issues but my first break in work out using NRFL a month back resulted in the same thing. I'm doing much more with lunges but I would love to be able to squat again. Any input would be appreciated.

Default groin injuries

Don't know much helpful about this, but I can tell you that groin injuries can last a long time. I got overstretched by a very tall wrestler in practice some 45 years ago. Very painful. And it has surfaced from backpacking and skiing, and when it surfaces, it really is sore. And the memories of the pain come back quite vividly. Squats and lunges don't seem to bother me, probably injured a different part, mine was really high up. Good luck with it. Rob

My first thought is that your problem might be something that could be helped by a good ART practitioner. You're in Albany so maybe TonyG or Eric Cressey would know someone up that way if you don't already know who to contact.

My guess, and it is a GUESS, lol, is that maybe there is scar tissue and/or adhesions involved, as well as possibly faulty movement patterns. And I'm thinking that you're probably going to have to see someone in person who can watch you move.
