Default Rib Facet (not sure of the spelling)

I went up to JP Fitness today to talk to JP. One of many reasons, to live in Little Rock. And I was complaining about a pain I had in my back/rib region. I mentioned that it feels tense and sore, like a pulled muscle. He told me that I had a rib facet issue. He told me to get on the foam roller, and I gave it a shot. Wow, I had no idea about these type of injury. I have lived with this injury happening about ever 3 months for the past several years.

Any of you experts have an input on the causes and prevention tips? From what I can figured out, I am getting this injury ever time I left dog food out of my car.

Please do not tell me I can't lift dog food anymore.

Thanks, Scott

There's any number of reasons for pain at the rib articulation. Repetitive strain from postural issues and crappy alignment or weakness tend to be most common resulting in spasm and pain.

The roller may help, but more likely addressing posture and spinal mobility will do the most good. If you have access to someone who does soft-tissue work, the smaller muscles around the rib attachment can get fibrotic from repetitive strain and will get some relief from hands-on treatment. The thoracic spine is also an area that seems to respond well to manipulation.

Try adding some single arm rowing and stabilization exercises to your program to address weaknesses as well.

Mike Robertson and I will be releasing a product very soon that will be right up your alley (sorry for the shameless plug).

Bill, I'd love to hear about the upcoming product! What a tease! Please go ahead and shamelessly plug it.
