Default Ab cramps while exercising...

Sometimes when I do crunches or if I sneeze really hard I'll get a cramping sensation similar to a "charlie-horse" in my abs around my navel. When I sneeze, mind you, my sneezes could probably register as category 3 hurricanes. Anyways when I get the cramp I usually have to do a backbend of some sort to ease the cramp. It always goes away, but sometimes it takes a while. Is this normal? Should I have it checked out? Does anybody have any suggestions of how to stop the cramp without having to get up and do a backbend? Thanks in advance.
