Default Bill Inguinal ligamnt right side

I must be going mad I thought Id asked about this.

Last January I had a car crash took a people carrier side on in my little sports car and needless to say I lost the battle.

At the time I broke two ribs and had a pnuema thorax. But I also had sever pain in the right groin. My initial thoughts were hernia as thats what it felt like. But the Physios just kept saying that it was due to the back injury and thats all they treated. They kept saying it would improve with time. Its been a year and the doctor wont refer me again they just tell me to rest and do no exrecise at all for 6 months and it will improve. To be honest that really aint an option I want to face. Anyhow I did a bit of research and then went to a private physion who confirmed he believes there maybe damage to said ligament. Again he told me no exercise for 6 months and just strecthes!

I know you cant diagnose the injury over the net but the symptons are a tight feeling around the pelic girdle if I do any form of impact work and if I run I lose the sensation of muscle control in the right leg (mainly associated with bringing my leg through to take the next stride. It doesnt hurt at the time but it just seems to gradualy stop working, its almost like the nerve messages are not getting through. This happens almost immediately when I run and the most I can do is 5 minutes.

Surely there must be some way they can identify the extent of the injury and also some other treatment that would support my training rather than the dont train philosophy?

Sit with hips and knees at 90 degrees, put your hands behind you in the small of your back, and keep your back it the tallest position you can (your hands will tell you your back position). Lift the knee on the unaffected side up as high as possible without changing your back position. Then do the same on the other side. Is there a difference?

If you stand and arch backward, does it increase the pull in the front of the affected hip?

If you sit for a while with your hip bent, like driving, and then get up is it very tight and/or painful?

Does it hurt when you cough, laugh, or go to the bathroom?

Is there any change in the sensation in your groin, hip, or thigh?

Can you poke on it directly and sense any tenderness?

Let me know.

Bill

1) Sit with hips and knees at 90 degrees, put your hands Is there a difference? yes weakness in right leg cant lift as high and takes more effort

2) If you stand and arch backward, does it increase the pull in the front of the affected hip? Yes pulls tight on right side and painin right lower back

3) If you sit for a while with your hip bent, like driving, and then get up is it very tight and/or painful? Yes extremely tight and prolonged gets very dull but pronounced ache

4) Does it hurt when you cough, laugh, or go to the bathroom? Cough most definitely if walking and I cough I stop dead in my tracks and intense pain for split second

5) Is there any change in the sensation in your groin, hip, or thigh? Not sure what you meant here but often get dull ache banding from front to back

6) Can you poke on it directly and sense any tenderness?
Not really but pressure on the groin area relieves pain symptons

All those things say to me sports hernia tho but they are adamant it isnt! On the left side though when I have been training/active there is a soft bump on the left hand side! But again they have said this is nothing.

One more thing I forgot to mention is when working out or on my feet alot if I put my right foot across my left thigh it makes an audible and often stomach turning clunk!!!!

I cant do full range squats as the tightness/girdle like feeling just pulls way to tight.

Appreciate any thoughts/advice you can give

Seeing as there's no definitive test for sports hernia, I'm not quite sure why they are ruling it out considering the duration of your symptoms.

Regardless, there's a couple other possibilties such as a nerve entrapment (usually ilioinguinal with traumatic cases) or direct injury to the hip flexors/abdominal muscles (sports hernia is usually the posterior wall of the oblique). If you have some numbness in the upper thigh or groin area, I'd lean toward a nerve entrapment.

What makes noise when you cross your legs?

I'd be going back to the doc (a different one with more experience with such issues) if I were you.

Thanks for that Bill. no there is no numbness at all.

The actual hip joint clunks for want of a better word and makes the noise I swear it feels like its out of line.

I will go back and ask for a referral to another doctors or a sports specialist.

GRRRRRR Update on this finaly got to see the Osteopath at the hospital today after waiting months.

What did he do? pressed on my groin a few small mobilisations and took an xray! Decided it wasnt a joint issue and said oh well must be a muscle issue must have torn it should sort itself out in a few years!!!!!!!

So its not to do with the inguinal ligament then Dr? No too high! So what is it ? I dont know maybe the adductors, what can I do? Nothing it will right itself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

aRGGGGGGGGG I thin our health service is run by witch doctors working in the dark ages!

Sorry vent over!
