I drink these, too. Just no milk and more protein powder.
What's the key to the best banana shake? Peel the bananas and freeze them in a bag. This way you don't need ice.
1 small banana, frozen and cutup into chunks
1 cup low fat milk
10g worth of vanilla protein powder
water to thin, if necessary
Blend in a blender.

My son won't eat. When there's a reasonable healthy food that he loves, I keep it coming. For years now, he's asked for these.
If it's for you, you are already used to the taste of protein powder. For picky eatin' kids, start with mostly milk and add more and more powder over a few weeks.
Or any frozen fruits for that matter! They all work the same way...yes?

There are three things in my life which I really love: God, my family, and baseball. The only problem - once baseball season starts, I change the order around a bit. ~Al Gallagher, 1971
yes and no - bananas add a creaminess that berries don't - but berries make for a slushiness that is pretty good - and frozen blueberries + cream makes a pretty good no-sugar ice cream in a pinch.
I put a half avocado in most of my shakes. I hate the taste of avocados but they are so good for you so i put em in anyways. I can;t even taste them in my shakes.
Ok I have tried strawberries, mangoes not papaya though.. and I used lots of sugar, whipped cream and yogurt. It was a major hit with my family and friends. ( Not too healthy, if you looked at the sugar contents )
I've been using a similar recipe for a while now - along with a couple of handfuls of frozen fruit. Makes it so thick it needs to be spooned out of the blender. And tasty
I prefer the chocolate + peanut butter + banana combination, using chocolate flavored drink mix. A little bit of peanut butter goes a long way here. It makes a tasty breakfast shake.
I really like your tip about freezing the bananas. I'll have to try that next time.
I recently started freezing my bananas with the peel still on...keeps them from going brown. Then I just mic 1 for a minute at half power, cut the back of the peel and sqooze out the banana!
My bananas don't turn brown in the freezer. I cut them into chunks, toss them in a baggie, and into the freezer. Months later, they're still looking good.

Hmmm, I'll try it your way then....sounds easier than dealing w/the peel!
I love these with a tbsp or two of peanut butter! I will have to try the frozen bananas idea, as I've had to reduce the milk in mine from 1 cup to 3/4 cup because it tasted watered down. Foregoing the ice would probably do the trick. Thanks, Lost Dog!
I, too, keep a bag of frozen bananas. I buy a bunch and peel them & break in half & freeze.
I made smoothies every day for my sister's kids. Banana, strawberry, jackfruit & mango. I used milk & yogurt for them, because they don't LOVE soy like I do. My nephew was great, he asked for his with no sugar. Then he tasted it and decided that it did need some. But at least he tried it -- pretty good for a 7 year old.
The frozen banana & whatever smoothie/shake really is my standby treat/quick breakfast. Who wants a stupid Weight Watcher's ice cream bar when you can have a giant yummy milkshaky thing that is actually healthy? I add cocoa, coffee, pumpkin, berries, peanut or almond butter, flax, whatever I feel like at the time.
Frozen pumpkin is great when you want to have less sugar.

i love this shake recipe! i've used it around breakfast or after dinner as a dessert its so good.

That's a good idea too. I've heard that the peels turn brown in the freezer but the fruit inside is still fine. However, taking the peels out of the equation altogether sounds much better.
LD, this is one of the best tips I've gotten...thank you! I now buy up all of the over-ripe bananas at the grocery store that are dirt cheap. I cut them up and put them in a big freezer bag. I must have 2 dozen sliced bananas up in the freezer at any given time. Such a great idea!
