The Key To The Best Banana Shake
The Best Banana Shake (for my kids)
I drink these, too. Just no milk and more protein powder.
What's the key to the best banana shake? Peel the bananas and freeze them in a bag. This way you don't need ice.
1 small banana, frozen and cutup into chunks
1 cup low fat milk
10g worth of vanilla protein powder
water to thin, if necessary
Blend in a blender.
Cals: 274
Fat: 6
Carb: 36
Fiber: 2
Protein: 20
My son won't eat. When there's a reasonable healthy food that he loves, I keep it coming. For years now, he's asked for these.
If it's for you, you are already used to the taste of protein powder. For picky eatin' kids, start with mostly milk and add more and more powder over a few weeks.

Great idea with the frozen bananas instead of ice. I bet it makes a much richer shake.

Very. Creamy and thick, like an ice cream shake.

Yeah frozen bananas are a good surrogate for ice cream.

Or any frozen fruits for that matter! They all work the same way...yes?

yes and no - bananas add a creaminess that berries don't - but berries make for a slushiness that is pretty good - and frozen blueberries + cream makes a pretty good no-sugar ice cream in a pinch.

one of these days I'm going to get brave and try adding avocado for texture to a shake - it is a fruit after all -

Nuke 2 cups of mixed frozen berries for about 30 sec and blend with cottage cheese in a cup with wand blender. Ummmmmm, tastes like sorbet..

I've had avocado in a shake before and to be honest makes the shake really creamy and the taste is not too bad either

I put a half avocado in most of my shakes. I hate the taste of avocados but they are so good for you so i put em in anyways. I can;t even taste them in my shakes.

Yup....I always have Ziplocs full of frozen bananas in the freezer...
A frozen banana, and some PB in a bowl is just as good as ice cream IMO...

No problem.
Papaya and mango work, too. Not quite as well. But, pretty well. There's no other fruit as creamy as the banana.

Ok I have tried strawberries, mangoes not papaya though.. and I used lots of sugar, whipped cream and yogurt. It was a major hit with my family and friends. ( Not too healthy, if you looked at the sugar contents )

I've been using a similar recipe for a while now - along with a couple of handfuls of frozen fruit. Makes it so thick it needs to be spooned out of the blender. And tasty
