Default Great Balls of Fire

You need:

2 lbs lean ground beef
1 can beans ( 1 1/2 cups)
2 large carrots
2 large onions
*chili powder
*chili dry seasoning (1/3 packet)
*pinch of black pepper
*touch of cinnamon
2 tbsp butter
2 whole eggs (preferably from happy chicken)
some patience

1. Chop the onions and cook in a pan using the 2 tbsp butter to simmer. When they cook and turn brown, set aside.
2. Mash the beans.
3. Fine-grate the carrots.
4. Mix the beef, mashed beans, carrots, cooked onions, the eggs and spices. Mix well.

Make large meatballs, place in a large baking dish and stick in a 300 F oven for an hour.

I bet you can grate cheddar cheese on top while hot and finish baking like that, too. I highly recommend serving them with salsa and sour cream.

No, we don't really have turkey in Bulgaria like you guys do in the US. It's hard to get and you can usually get the whole animal or a drumstick and it seems like it was frozen in Argentina at the time of WW II.

RedWifey, I walk in the kitchen and think: what do I have and then figure out a way to make it work I've been cooking since I was 10 so it's not hard.

Very cool! The thread title confused me, since "beanball" means something a little different to baseball players in the US. Makes me recall when my dad used to line my brother and I up against a chainlink fence, then he'd get a bucket of baseballs and throw them at us until we were tough. Good times...

Oh, and for the record I totally vote for the grated cheese on top. RW knows that I would eat a bowl of paper clips if they were covered in melted cheese.

Haha Red I thought the same thing!

Galya - those do look delicious, but you need a more appealing name for them. A few options:

*Try something with a French word in it: balles d'haricot
*Gratuitously use a fancy font and the word "Gourmet": Gourmet Bean Balls
*The American version: add the word "Jumbo", "XL", and a large round number: Jumbo Bean Balls XL3000

Naw, I like "beanballs". I'm already picturing our kids' faces when we tell them what's for dinner.

Haha!!! That means "bean husks." I think you mean boules d'haricot.

There's probably some cool Bulgarian name for it.

Oh man, those sound good! I'm gonna make these for sure.

That is, if I get to the ground beef in the fridge before Og does, I think he wants to make burgers with it. The race is on.

hey Gayla,

I usually just buy the big bag of costco meat balls because they are extremely convenient. I would definitely prefer to just make a big batch of your meatballs instead. I was just curious as to how they taste reheated in the microwave?
