Default Turkey Bacon

looks (kinda) like bacon

tastes (a little) like bacon

has a texture (a lot) like cardboard.

ugh. Will not buy this again. Turkey sausage, now that was alright. Not this stuff. You've been warned

I use turkey pastrami instead of the turkey bacon. You cook it in the microwave or toster oven until crisp and it tastes like a pepper bacon. If you cook it in the microwave make sure you cover it with paper towel or you will have a mess. My grocery store carries it in the deli section.

my wife, who is an extremely picky eater, just called me to say she liked the T. bacon. Go figure. Perhaps I cooked it too long, i do like it crispy.

I'll try to turkey pastrami thing too. Good idea!

Yeah, but there is no turkey in regular bacon.

That's why it's good.

Don't fear the fat. Fat is good.

Look at Galya and Milko. They eat a lot of fat. Sorta makes me think that we're doing something ELSE wrong.

Default fat

Learning I could eat fat was body changing - all for the good. Best book on eating, Willett, Harvard School of Public Health. Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy. They did an up date this year which I bought, no major changes from the original. Any one, on any diet should read this book, if summarizes all of the nutritional science available.

bacon is good, as long as it's crispy. Soft bacon is gross.

I have chilli and veggies for lunch...mmmmm

I do eat bacon for sure, like to the tune of 4 slices on Sat and Sun with my protein enriched blueberry pancakes. Just thought I'd give it a shot. I did not like it, that's for sure.

I buy chicken and turkey bacon every week. To me it tastes better than real bacon without all that fat.

I buy bacon at Trader Joe's because they have the uncured kind without all of the nasty nitrates. Haven't noticed a difference either - I don't think nitrates have a taste :p . (I'm trying to beat LD out of all of his snappy answers but I suspect it is futile...)

Alextown...turkey bacon is good...but it can be overcooked very easily. What brand did you use? I find the best to be Butterball. Once it stops the popping noise...or as the noise slows down..take it out (kind of like microwave popcorn I guess).

Can't remember where I read it but nitrates may not be as bad for you as the common concensus has it. Anyway love my bacon.

I read that too - on the back of a Hormel hot dog wrapper. :p

Seriously, you can get bacon that is uncured = no nitrates. I'm rabid about nutrition, though. Love my organics.

I think the key to bacon consumption is using it for flavor, and not for filler. A little bit packs a ton of flavor, so you don't need more than 50-100 cal worth to get your fix.

Louis Rich turkey bacon is pretty damn good - I don't care for the stuff made by Jeannie-O. However, nothing beats the thick cut black-pepper bacon.

The best Turkey Bacon I have ever had is the cheap-o stuff from Aldi's. It cooks up pretty good. Pretty much my breakfast every morning is 2 o3 eggs, 3 pieces of TB, and a handfull of carrots.

EXACTLY!!! T-bacon is the only kind we eat and we love it! It's kind of like diet soda, I guess... the taste takes time to get used to but, when it happens, . I don't know what brand we're buying because there's typically only one to chose from. BTW, that's how I cook it, too. When it stops making noise in the micorwave, it's READY!

It's damn good in my book, but only when it's as crispy as can be without burning it. Throw it on a PB sandwhich if your diet allows.....mmmmmm.

I'm a big fan of turkey bacon...I think it tastes pretty much just like regular bacon. I also get turkey pepperoni. It's cheap and tastes like regular pepperoni as well.
