Default Saturday night pizza??

So Shannon was having some friends over and they cooked up some deliscio pizza.

I elected not to eat this and instead made my own pies.

I used small whole wheat pitas, 150 cals per pita.

I added some pizza sauce, I used a canned variety that is low in sugar and calories, take a look though your grocery store for something similar.

To this base I added lean ground turkey, sundried tomatoes and red peppers. I covered in a part skim mozza cheese and cooked for about 10 minutes. The crust was pretty crispy and over all they turned out very well.

I had no desire to eat the deliscio pizza and was perfectly happy with my whole wheat ones.

even the gf said they were really good.

I mean technically if we use good ingredients and do it in moderation pizza should be an ok deal. Fresh veggies, lean meats, cheeses. All good stuff.

trouble is the base captures the fats and is like a fat sponge yuk!

Mind you the only time low fat cheese is palatable is when cooked :-)

I can see that maybe being an issue on some pies, but not if we are using lean meats and part fat cheeses, along with a whole wheat thin crust.

Pizza can be evil. it just dosen't NEED to be

I read somewhere that just blotting the top of a pizza with a paper towel lowers the fat content by something like 20%.
