Thinking about possibly getting the book. Can anyone vouch for it? Give good reviews about the book?
And how many recipes are contained in the book?
Thanks

It says 100 meals...so I'd range a guess in that generally direction for the # or recipies.

Yep, I got it, we use it. Lots of recipes.... don't have it hear at the office, but more recipes than I can use. Plus a TON of nutritional wisdom (which would be worth it by itself without the recipes).

In addition to the reviews here and on the link provided by Gobbla, here are some of the reviews we accumulated:
Quote:
"One of the best books I've seen so far . . ."
"Gourmet Nutrition is sophisticated and entertaining, one of the best books I've seen so far. Given that it would take you years to work through all the great recipes, the book is a bargain!"
-- Lou Schuler
Award-winning journalist and co-author of "The Testosterone Advantage Plan," "The Men's Health Home Workout Bible" and "The Book of Muscle"
www.louschuler.com
"Home run."
"Dr. Berardi and Dr. Williams really hit a home run with Gourmet Nutrition. The recipes are laid out in a way that even a novice cooker like myself can follow. This is not just a cookbook however. As Dr. Berardi says, this is a "full-blown eating manual." Gourmet nutrition walks you through eating strategies, supplements, preparation tips, nutritional facts, food myths etc. If you are serious about training and diet this book is a must have. Finally I can look forward to something besides chicken on the Foreman and tuna in a can!!!!"
-- Paul Raccuglia
"Bar-none, the most comprehensive nutrition resource."
"John's new e-book is bar-none the most comprehensive nutrition resource for anyone interested in following a healthy lifestyle and eating foods that actually taste good. Most cookbooks simply give you the "what" and "how;" this resource goes a step further, offering the readers the "why," too."
" Anyone can make a food taste good by adding unhealthy ingredients, but how many top chefs can make tasty dishes with ingredients that will make you healthier, leaner, stronger, and more muscular - and describe them in a humorous, narrative format? From macronutrient breakdowns, to preparation tips, to common myths, to the importance of nutrient timing, "Gourmet Nutrition" has it all."
-- Eric M. Cressey, BS, CSCS
"Fun, healthy and rewarding."
"Everything from grocery shopping to preparing your meals is covered in “Gourmet Nutrition.” In it you'll learn that diversity in your nutrition plan is fun, healthy, and rewarding. This fully functional eating manual gives you recipes, structure, and the tools to change your way of eating forever. Berardi and Williams masterfully draw together tips and cooking strategies to ensure your success in the kitchen and in the gym."
-- Brian
"An absolute bargain."
" Your Gourmet Nutrition book is amazing! I know that you're inbox is probably inundated with tons of people praising you and Dr. Williams on this book, but I had to provide my feedback as well."
"You can tell that both you and Dr. Williams put in a lot of thought into this project. There is definitely a lot of information in here that you would never find in a traditional cookbook or cookbook geared towards healthy cooking for that matter. I think the best part is all of the helpful tips - like the
essential tools you should have in your kitchen and info on common food
misconceptions."
" Plus I like that you categorize each recipe as post-workout or anytime and provide nutritional info, especially the fat breakdown. After going through the book, I think the $29.99 is an absolute bargain for the information & recipes you provide.
- Christine Oh
"A wealth of information."
"Gourmet nutrition is not just a cook book, it contains a wealth of information, all at one's fingertips. The first section prepares the reader for success, but also emphasizes that they are responsible for their success or failure. Information between recipes and helpful hints also make the e-book more readable. Section 3 is excellent as it provides options for the future & offers personal support with the coaching program. Pick up your copy today for a gateway into the Gourmet system of healthy eating."
-- Audrey Lee, M.Sc.
"A must-have."
“I work with some of the most elite athletes in the world as well as a ton of athletes at all age levels. I am recommending this book as a must have for all of them. Don’t mess around in the kitchen until you get this in your hands. Great work gentlemen!”
-- Scott Paltos, BA, CSCS, NASM, CPT
NFL Combine Co-Director and P.E.A.K Program Coordinator
Parisi Speed School
www.parisischool.com
"Amazing."
"Gourmet Nutrition is amazing, a great compendium of the way to eat. I have
been pouring through it and have improved my eating habits and am already putting on new muscle and getting leaner. Really impressed, I am recommended to all of my friends. Thanks docs!"
-- Sam Callaway
"Excellent . . . truly one-of-a-kind."
"Just wanted to say this book is excellent and truly one-of-a-kind. You've given us the best of both worlds here; most cookbooks have no nutritional "background info," just the recipes themselves. On the flip side, most nutritional books have some great theory, but then don't give you the necessary tools to develop a solid day-to-day eating routine. That's what makes this book a must-have. No more excuses for not knowing good recipes or how to prepare certain foods, it's all in here."
-- Mike Robertson, MS, CSCS
"Time-friendly, nutritionally-superior recipes."
"Being that I'm a active graduate student on-the-run, having a cookbook that offers time-friendly, nutritionally-superior recipes is imperative for success with my academics and my athletic goals. Thank you for creating such a wonderful resource! I'm looking forward to savoring those Apple Cobbler Protein Bars after my next work-out (they're on page 171, and look so good... everyone HAS TO try them!).
-- Cassandra E. Forsythe, MSc, PhD candidate in Nutrition
"Ups the ante."
"Dr. Berardi and Dr. Williams have upped the ante. Now there certainly are no excuses for not knowing how to eat for optimal body success -- and how to do it realistically. Gourmet Nutrition is a must have for anyone who likes to eat."
-- Douglas Kalman MS, RD, CCRC, FACN
"This book is for everyone."
"Dr. Berardi's new book, Gourmet Nutrition, is just what this generation of athlete and fitness enthusiast needs. Not just a cook book, a diet book, or a book of nutrition principles, Gourmet Nutrition gives you all three. With nutrition facts, cooking tips, eating and program design strategies, and lots of recipes, this book is for everyone, from the beginner to the most advanced."
-- Jose Antonio, Ph.D.
Chief Executive Officer
International Society of Sports Nutrition
www.sportsnutritionsociety.org
"Outstanding."
"Allow me to first thank and congratulate you on creating a cookbook that is long overdue. The recipes are outstanding, combining a wide variety of foods and simple preparation into dishes that are both healthy and tasty. The additional preparation tips and information regarding why certain foods should be staples of a healthy diet are also great. Finally, a cookbook centered around a specific dietary philosophy is a much-welcomed departure from the norm. So thank you again for creating such a great product."
-- Neil Breiding
"Great stuff!"
"Great stuff! The examples really illustrated how this is all put together in a daily plan. I'm counting down the days until the DVD arrives!!!"
-- Ryan Michniewicz
"Outstanding quality, reasonable price."
"Gourmet Nutrition" is one of the best nutrition books for athletes. In addition to comprehensive information that will benefit all athletes, the quality of the book is outstanding and the price is very reasonable. Many people charge over $100.00 for e-books and do not have any where near the info that John has in this book. This book is a must have. You will never be bored again with healthy eating!
-- Mike Mahler
Strength coach and writer for Industry Magazine and Hardcore Muscle Magazine
"Extraordinary."
"Gourmet Nutrition" is a truly extraordinary book that anyone, not just those within the exercise community owes to themselves to own. I can only hope this book becomes a staple in everyone's kitchen library across the world. Great work!

It's a must have for anyone who is serious with their nutrition and diet. I have the e-book version and I use it a lot. It's packed full of all the information. One of the best parts is cleaning out the foot in your kitchen. Even if you think you have a lot of good stuff, they pack even more into it.
Its also great for keeping some variety in your diet which is always nice to have. Plus, you can see what kinds of things go into different meals so you can kind of experiment.
If you're right on the line between buying or not, I would definitely buy it. You won't find a better resource for the price.
Thanks Johnka & JB for such a good book

The very best thing that it has going for it is that it doesn't really have any competition. The recipies are good, but some are dangeriously simular to others.
Everything is easy to follow with good information simular to what's free on the johns' websites. I've probibly made about 6 or so of the recipies (all of which include easily attainible ingrediants at your local market) and everything turned out great.
Some things that I would have liked to have seen:
-a larger degree of spices used
--spices are cooking to me. it felt like in order to make the recipies more accessible they might have been slightly dumbed down.
-more >period< and a larger variety of dishes
--101 recipies sounds like a lot...but open up your family heirloom betty crocker and you're likely to hit 100+ recipies per section x 12 sections. as someone that cooks a pretty good deal the volume of recipies per use is somewhat light.
All in all it's fantastic for what it is. If you want a guide on foods to eat and ways to prepair them to help follow massive or lean eating...this is your one stop shop. It gives you the bare bones to eat healthy and establish a foundation for a proper athletic diet.
It's just a little light on content for what a "recipie book" should be...especially considering the $30 price tag

Gobbla,
A lot of specialty cookbooks have far fewer recipes than this book does. It's really only the Joy of Cooking and Better Homes and Gardens styles, etc. that have a ton. Plus, many of those are compiled over years and republished (sometimes directly from those in their magazines) into updated versions of the book.
As to the price, I'd guess that if this one is popular enough and can get picked up by a paper book publisher, that you might see a fleshed out version for less than this ebook version. Who knows...
It's got a lot to do with anticipated volume of sales. It's got to be pricey enough to be worth it for the author and/or publisher to make it worth their while.
With a book like this, they'll get about as many sales at $30 as they would at $20. A few less, but not that much less. The more "fitness focused" probably will buy it, as long as the price is at least reasonable. IMO, of course...
There are short run, hardcopy book publishers that are now available for both self-publishers and small runs for the "bigger" publishers. They use high speed lasers and such. But, it's still pricey unless you have at least a decent volume going out hardcopy.

I'm not arguing that it should have the same # of recipies as the joy of cooking or that I don't understand the economics of the situation (although I think one could argue the difference in between the economic value of a hardbound vs e-book...being production cost limited to purchasing a version of adobe and possible website upkeep).
I probibly have 16 or so full size cookbooks (which is likely less than many on this board) some specialty, some not. None of which cost $30, all of which have more recipies.
IMO the value as a recipie book is limited. What it has is pretty good, some fantastic, some a little more repetitive. It's not bad, I just don't personally think it's $30 worth of e-book.

I would wonder how many of the 100s of recipes in other books are 'clean eating' and how many provide detailed macros for each of their recipes in this fashion. I would imagine that would whittle down the field to just a few. As far as finding recipes for the way we all eat, along with nutritional info, I personally haven't seen many books like this one.

quite a few give macro breakdowns and depending on your definition of "clean eating" they can obviously be hit or miss. I've never seen another book or e-book specifically geared towards a bodybuilding type lifestyle. Which as already said it's greatist boon...so it meets the goal of what it set out to do (as said).
again, I'm not saying not to by it or that what it contains is poor. I *personally* don't feel like it was worth $30. $20 mabey. If it came with an update, then mabey. As is, no.
I'm a little confused on why I have to defend my oppinion?

You don't need to and my response was simply a reply regarding your asumption about # of recipes. I'm a pretty happy consumer of the book.
Speaking of which I made the Granola Bars yestrerday and they rock (again)! 18 grams of protein per serving, and only 240 kcals. My father-in-law came over and I asked him to try some and then he was cutting out pieces and taking them home with him. My kids were also nibbling on it. It IS really tasty!!

I also thought the book was overpriced, but being a DINK and having more money than sense, I thought what the heck.
This little jewel opened my eyes in numerous ways. I've tried following JBs recommendations in the past, only to become very frustrated. Being rather retentive, I wouldn't eat any concoction that was a gram over on any of his guidelines. I knew this wasn't realistic, but having nothing else to go on, what could I do? Give up is usually what happened.
This book really gives insight into how to eat, what boundaries you can cross, with what and by how much. You not only have the recipes, but now you have the knowledge.
With this book and following JBs 90% rule, over the past 4 months I have never been happier, leaner and never felt better. For me, it was cheap at this price.
Just my $.02
