Can anyone comment on using splenda as an alternate for sugar? I recently discovered the stuff and am wondering if there's a downside.
Thanks

I think there's a downside to using anything processed... That being said I use Splenda regularly at least 4 tablespoons/day with no adverse side effects...

if you are concerned with Splenda (as of yet there doesn't seem to be any real concern), not like aspartame anyway - there is yet another substitute you may have heard of. Its called stevia. It is from a leaf - its not man made, said to be very healthy. Its hard to find things sweetened with Stevia though - I have found only one or two brands of protein powders sweetened this way....Whey Gourmet Natural brand and i believe IsoFlex came out with some stevia sweetened powder..other than that you can buy packets of it at your local nutrition store

Stevia last I saw was not able to be sold as a sweetner as they have done essentially no studies on it's long term effects. All we have is anecdotal evidence. I belive they could sell it as a herbal supplement, but that was all.
Maybe this has changed? I wasn't super impressed by it when I tried it, but then I'm not super concerned about aspartame either.
Og.

Stevia has a biter after taste, worse than the chemical sweetners...IMO

I'm not real crazy about the taste of Stevia either. My dad uses it (he's type II diabetic), and I guess he likes it. I may be more willing to try it now that I am severely limiting my sugar intake.
Splenda may not be all that it's cracked up to be (derived from sugar, as they say in their ads), but it is the best sugar replacement I have ever tasted, and it is a lot less dangerous for you than Aspertame or Nutri-sweet.
