Isn't there something you (and by "you," I mean you, the administrators) can do to stop this kind of crap (quoted, below) from happening? I know it's the poster's responsibility to NOT do it, but I don't think they even know they do it. If you don't preview your post, it won't show up.
They must be pasting in from some other application. It's really annoying and I think it makes it so people stop reading the thread. It's too bad for the good threads.
This example's not even all that bad. Some have lots of different little faces sprinkled throughout the post.
Just wondering...
Thanks,
Roland

Everything and everyone has fitness or nutrition advice to offer these days—websites, television, newspapers, your best friend, college professors, barbers, mechanics, personal trainers, dietitians, and so on. The debate rages on between low carbohydrate and high carbohydrate fanatics. Advocates of high reps or low reps swear by their methods. I could go on forever citing examples of the various arguments running rampant in the fitness industry. All of this conflicting information makes it difficult for people to figure out what’s right or wrong. :p>:p> :p>:p>
This book takes the work out of figuring out what’s right and what’s wrong by combining “in the trenches” knowledge with primary scientific data. Some will be surprised to learn that what they’ve believed about nutrition and exercise all of these years has been dead wrong. A statement isn’t necessarily correct just because your fitness coach, college professor, or favorite magazine said it. How many times have you heard “…wellthey say” or “everybody says…?”:p>:p> :p>:p>
When someone tells you something or everybody says something, you accept it is as gospel without any question, especially when it came from someone with a highly respected degree or certificate, a reputation for always being right, or any other trusted source. I highly recommend that you change your way of thinking. If you’re worried about offending people or possibly upsetting some of your heroes, you should probably stick to a robotic style of thinking and accept that you most likely will never find the truth. Like everyone else, I assumed that certain statements were correct without really scratching the surface. In writing this book, my views have changed on many topics. Once you read it, I’m sure yours will too. :p>:p> :p>:p>
I have a few recommendations :p>:p>
I'm not sure how to prevent it other than going back in and editing it. I have noticed that it happens when you copy something in MS Word and paste it into a post. Some sort of code issue I'm sure. It doesn't show until after I hit the "post" button though. I usually just go back into my post and remove all the extra stuff that was not part of my post.
Maybe Susie (my webmaster) will know a fix, but I have noticed this same bug across the board on many other VB forums, so I'm not holding my breath.
I'm not sure about vBulletin but some other forums will only display smilies that are surrounded by spaces on both sides. Maybe there is an option somewhere.
This would at least prevent them from appearing in the middle of words.
I compose a lot in Microsoft Word. This happens every time I paste. Always do a preview before posting and the garbage will show up and you can remove it.

I haven't confirmed this myself, but what if you C+P to Notepad or another plain-text application and THEN paste to the forum? That'd probably clear out all the BS formatting that Word throws in.

I have to do that, too, and it can be time consuming and a pain in the neck. Any way to make it copy and paste from Word without all the garbage?

Phaed's tip is one way. The other is to click on the "switch editor mode" button in the upper right (little a/big A button). In that mode, you're just pasting in in text mode.
Of course, these won't work for Mahler, who actually WANTS the formatting to show up. Just not the little tongue guys (I'm assuming).
I will, however, point out that Chuck Norris doesn't have this problem. When Chuck posts, the smileys delete themselves.
The score is now Chuck Norris 7,453,356, Mahler 7,453,345. Slight edge to Chuck. The day is young...
This also happens when posting articles to the directories if copying and pasting from MS Word. It's something to do with the coding of MS Word. Use a plain text editor such as Notepad or Notetab.
If you've already typed it out in Word, just copy and paste into a plain text editor, then copy and paste into the forum.
Oh, I should read all the thread first. It's already been answered.................dohhh h.
