Why can some people have larger avatars, but I am limited to 80x80 pixels? Makes no sense to me.

Thanks

From the avatar config:

Quote:
Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 200 by 200 pixels or 29.3 KB (whichever is smaller).
You could have a 200x200 pixel avatar, if it takes up only 25k.

GIFs take a lot because they don't compress. They are a lossless format. Use an animated gif and the space requirements get even more.

So for the computer illiterate, what are you saying? If we shouldn't use gifs, what should we use and how do we compress them?

Does it say 80x80 in your own profile's guidelines? Maybe there's some corruption in your account.

About a year ago, mine was giving me strange numbers. It said I could have an avatar of 80x80, but if I created a new user, the new one was allowed 120x120.

JP had me create a new account, then he merged the old one into the new one, and all was good with the world.

Yup. It tells me that I have to be within 80x80. Others obviously don't have those same requirements.

Cynic: Barbaro works because he's inside the 80x80. If I go with a JPG bigger than 80x80, it doesn't work.
