Default broken links etc

hi there,

if anyone spots any threads/posts that have broken links in, or might not have the same functionality since the upgrades, can they reply here, or send me a PM - including the link to the post, and i'll take a peek.

thanks

susie

Sorry, I didn't see this post. I put my reply in the new features thread.

I found an issue with some older posts with pictures linked. There are spaces getting added into the url, breaking the links.
This is happening in all of my picture posts. Here is one of them.

hi there,

i'm now sure how you're adding the images and links to your threads, but i did a test and it seemed to work fine.

here's how i did it.

if you click on the little button on the post WYSIWIG editor that looks like a picture (of a mountain with sun in upper right) a box will open, stick the link to the image in there, and click ok.

that'll insert the image. to add the URL link to the bigger image, click on the one youve just added, then click on the button that looks like a chain with a globe behind it. another popup will show, add the URL to the bigger image in the bottom box, leaving the upper part set to HTTP. then click ok.

hopefully that should resolve the problem

I understand how to add the images using the method you described. The problem is with threads that already exist. I was using standard html in previous posts. Here is an example of the code I used.

HTML Code:
<a href="http://paulberge.smugmug.com/photos/169610971-L.jpg"><img src="http://paulberge.smugmug.com/photos/169610971-S.jpg" border="1"/></a>
Using the above code generates the following link within the post.
HTML Code:
http://paulberge.smugmug.com/p hotos/169610971-L.jpg
Notice the extra 2 spaces in /photos/.

I have been posting my photographs on the forum for a while now and this method has never given me any problems. There are around 30 threads that now have broken links to all the posted pictures.

i had word back from the vbulletin team on this too. it seems that the spaces must have been added during the upgrades. but that if the same code is added in now, it should work fine.

one thing i did notice though, is that when i made a test post to try this out, in the preview mode, it still had the errors, but when i clicked to send the post, it appeared just fine. ive asked them why this happens, so i'll let you know what they say. but for now, the end result does work fine.

im afraid the only option is to go back and re-code the old posts. editing them and deleting the dud code, and adding the fixed code. sorry about that.

Thank you so much for looking into this.

I guess there is no quick solution. If JP would allow me temporary moderator privileges on the off topic forum, I could go back and fix the posts myself.

I see it... I will either give Paul temp mod ability or see if any of our mods want to repair it.

Oops... Susie posted her update at the same time as me. Paul, let me know if you can fix it or not.

Thank you both.

I think you can only edit your own posts within a short period of time after the original post. I don't see the option to edit these myself. I would appreciate a temporary mod status. I can't say how much time I have to spend editing, so "temporary" may turn out to be a fairly long time.
