General Outdoor Fun DiscussionWhether you rock climb, kayak, snowboard, hike or hang glide, if you play outside and you play hard, come talk about it in here.
That's cool. We have an indoor climbing gym in Little Rock that ODBSGIRL and the youngun' have done but I've missed out on. Thanks for reminding me of yet something else to make a new years resolution about!

Today's mighty oak was once just some nut who held his ground!
ehh I am sure it will serve to remind me how out of shape I still am! hahhaha
I am still quite looking forward to it, been wanting to learn for a couple of years but didn't want to go by myself so it's cool Shannon wants to go as well.
We are going to the University, but there is at least one other climbing facility in town.
Og.

Indoor climbing is definately something I want to try. I did it once but just for 5 minutes.. cause I was organizing the activity for students.. and couldn't stay more.. but I really liked it.
Our Y has a climbing wall with 5 access points (rappel stations I guess you could call 'em). It's not bad, in the afternoon it's busy, lots of kids are getting into it.
We have a local climbing gym in town, it's 33.00 for 3 months of unlimited bouldering, 150.00 for 3 months of unlimited ropes climbing.
So tonight was my first time rock climbing (indoors) and it was by far one of the coolest and best things I have ever done. I think i might be hooked, a group of my friends and I are going again on sunday for college night. All the help from Craig and Lou with there programs definately show my strength improvements
The university where I work is adding on to our Student Rec Bldg and the plans show an indoor climbing wall. I'm really excited about this even though it will be a couple of years before it's open.
I've never done this (yet) but, from what I've read, you basically climb with your legs although good upper body strength is required, too. I'm sure a leaner person would have a great advantage over someone hauling extra weight.
For those of you who have done this, I'd love to hear what you find helps you, in terms of training, so I can prepare myself for this when it's ready. Since we moved, the Rec Center is only a couple of blocks away. I use it a lot now and plan to use it more when the addition is finished!

Climbing is a little weird, the only way your going to get better at it is to do it alot! I guess you could train flexibility and finger stregnth.
In theory you climb with your legs.. I get laughed at for this. My legs are only following! haha. 1 route and im almost done for the day! I just need to practace.
