Default Any tennis players here?

As you can tell from my avatar, I not only play tennis, but I pretty much live and breath it!

I play adult leagues and tournaments, though I'm a pretty intermediate level. I work very hard though, and hope to improve to at *least* a 4.0 NTRP level if not higher. I mostly play singles, but I do play some doubles (I prefer singles though).

Much of my training I try to work around what I need for tennis. Though, since being stronger is never a bad thing, strength training is definitely a plus. My only other big training focus would be on plyometric moves, since I tend to lack speed (fast twitch). I've run for years, and have no problem with endurance, but lack that quick first step that is needed for good, solid footwork on the court.

Anyway, since tennis doesn't have its own subforum, I thought I'd start this thread and see if there were any other tennis players and/or fans on here.

This is the perfect place for it.
Unfortunately I'm not a tennis player so have nothing much else to add.

I love tennis, and I'm in Arlington VA actually too I'm still kind of new to the area, and I'm actually moving to Woodbridge in October, but where do you play? And do you go to the Legg Mason Tournament here in DC?

Since I don't really play right now, and definitely not at th level you're at, I can't really comment on strength training and tennis, though I have improved as my overall fitness improved, but that's kind of a "duh" type thing, lol

Hi Littlemermaid! Small world, hunh? I live in Alexandria and work in Arlington.

Indoors I play at Skyline sport and health in the Falls Church/Bailey's Crossroads area, but outdoors, I'm all over the place. I actually played last week in Woodbridge at Freedom HS...eight lighted courts! Very nice.

Yes, I've been going to Legg Mason for years (I have a ticket subscription package) and I'm looking forward to going soon. There are a lot of a great players coming this year. Are you planning to go at all?

I have played since I was a little tacker, unfortunately I rarely play now,
I would love to get back into some form of competition

as far as training goes, not sure of anything specific

well, that was helpful
